The Cougars, ending their season with 10-4 Skyline Conference and 18-6 overall marks, tied for second in Skyline stand- ings with Phoenix. However, the Pirates will receive the Skyline number two seed for the state contest because Phoenix twice defeated I.V. The Cougar girls will have to win a home game against Lakeview or Henley on Friday, Feb. 27 to qualify for the 3- A state playoffs. They competed on Tuesday, Feb. 24 to see which would challenge I.V. On Feb. 20, Kim Hamilton led the Cougars with 17 points and seven rebounds. Emily Dudley and Sheena Cole added 16 and 12 points respectively. CJ couple continuing to improve Sara and Rocky Jones of Cave Junction, who were injured in a fatal, two-vehicle car accident on Hwy. 199 near Rogue Community College on Valentine’s Day, are be- ginning to recover. Sara, who sustained injury to her right foot in the collision, is still in Portland at Oregon Health and Sciences University. She had to undergo sur- gery for her broken ankle. Her brother, Doug Hoskins of CJ, said it is “touch-and-go” as to whether her right foot can be saved. Sara’s husband, Rocky, previously listed in critical condition, is still at Rogue Valley Medical Center. He suffered a broken sternum and cracked ribs. He was recently taken off a ventilator assisting him to breath, but has developed pneumonia and may not be released for some time, Hoskins said. Fish structure comments due Log structures de- signed to provide resting and rearing places for fish are scheduled to be built in two area streams by the Illinois Valley Ranger Dis- trict of Rogue River- Siskiyou National Forest. Broken Kettle Creek, a tributary of Elk Creek lo- cated in Del Norte county, Calif., and Taylor and West Taylor Creeks, near Galice, currently lack suf- ficient in-stream wood to provide adequate fish habit. The added log struc- tures increase stream chan- nel complexity and im- prove the long-term viabil- ity of fish populations. About 100 logs would be added to the Broken Kettle stream channel, and 500 to Taylor and West Taylor Creeks. Most would be between 32 and 45 feet long and be in complex units with five to 10 pieces per structure. Send comments to District Ranger, 26568 Redwood Hwy., Cave Junction, OR 97523. Dead- line is Monday, March 1.
