Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, February 11, 2004 Page 10 EMERGENCY AWARENESS - Illinois Valley Fire District Volunteer Firefighters De Spellman and Many Smiles were at Dome School in Takilma Thursday, Feb. 5 dem- onstrating extrication equipment and procedures. The program, which is available to all schools, is designed to alleviate fears children may experience during an emer- gency. Many Smiles donned her turnout protective clothing and breathing apparatus to show the youngsters what a firefighter responding to an emergency would look and sound like. Approximately 15 Dome School students and teachers observed the presentation, which lasted more than an hour. The children were shown emergency procedures and were given first aid kits, coloring books, helmets, evacuation plans for their homes and safety belt contracts.
