“In the beginning was
the Word and the Word
was with God, and the
Word was God. And the
Word became flesh and
lived among us.”
Do we need scientists
to prove the existence of
God? Hardly. God was
sent to us, in the person of
Jesus, some 3,000 years
ago, so that we might be
reborn as true believers,
relieved of our previous
sinful selves.
Church activities: Sun-
day, Jan. 11, 9 a.m. wor-
ship; 10:15 Sunday school;
Sunday, Jan. 18, annual
congregational meeting
following worship.
St. Patrick of the Forest
Catholic Church
Next Sunday we will
celebrate the Baptism of
the Lord with Mass at 10
a.m. We will read from
Luke’s Gospel, where the
people were filled with
expectation and asking in
their hearts whether John
the Baptist might be the
Christ. John answered
them, “I am baptizing you
with water, but one might-
ier than I is coming...he
will baptize you with the
Holy Spirit and fire.”
Through Baptism we
are justified by God’s
grace and become heirs in
hope of eternal life. After
baptism, the choice is ours,
to follow Christ or reject
Him.
STORM DAMAGE - A
crew from Trees Inc.
used an aerial bucket
and a man with a chain-
saw to remove a tree that
fell because of snow and
rain around 11 a.m. on
Thursday, Jan. 1 along
Hwy. 199 in Kerby. Illi-
nois Valley Fire District
firefighters
also
re-
sponded and helped di-
rect traffic. Firefighters
and Pacific Power per-
sonnel for the past sev-
eral days have re-
sponded to numerous
reports of trees on tele-
phone and electric lines
in the valley.
There’s one good
thing about snow, it
makes your lawn
look as nice as your
neighbor’s.
