Jim Frick and Dennis
Strayer were introduced as
newest members of the
Illinois Valley Chamber of
Commerce Board of Direc-
tors during a board meet-
ing on Thursday, Dec. 18
in Wild River Brewing &
Pizza Co. in Cave Junc-
tion.
It was announced that
Terri Smith and Ted
Crocker were re-elected.
Frick is a broker at Cen-
tury 21 Harris & Taylor,
Strayer is site manager for
the I.V. Visitor Center;
Smith operates Northwest
Hairlines; and Crocker
owns Ted Crocker LTC,
all in Cave Junction.
The board will meet
next on Jan. 20 at Wild
River. The date is a Tues-
day; a change for 2004, as
previously the directors
have met on Thursdays.
Based on nominations,
it appears that the voting
for officers at the Jan. 20
meeting will involve Smith
as president; Vicki Gill of
SOFCU as treasurer; and
Bill Reid of Oregon Mt.
Real Estate as vice presi-
dent. Smith and Gill cur-
rently hold the offices of
president and treasurer.
Crocker is vice president,
but told the board recently
that because of his profes-
sion he can no longer hold
office where he can sign
checks.
Tickets were drawn for
the chamber Christmas
Basket fund-raiser. Win-
ners are Jeff Stiles, Karen
Stiles, Corky Quen and
Joann McKeehen. After
expenses, the event, coor-
dinated by Gill, raised
$258.
Office Manager Dulcie
Moore told the board that
565 persons were recorded
at the visitor center during
November. This compares
with 515 during the same
month a year ago.
Regarding the Christ-
mas Parade, directors dis-
cussed an alternate time
frame. This year’s parade
was postponed from Dec. 6
because of predicted rain;
then on the alternative date
of Dec. 13 it did rain.
Directors also dis-
cussed some new commu-
nity projects, besides
changing the period for the
annual parade. It was sug-
gested that it might be bet-
ter if the holiday parade
were to be held closer to
Thanksgiving.
In connection with the
holiday season, Director
Leonard Frick of Holiday
Motel said there’s a plan to
put 1,000 lights on the
Community Christmas
Tree on the vacant lot be-
tween the Junction Inn and
Pizza Pit on Redwood
Hwy. in CJ. Frick said that
Marty Hertler and Jim Val-
entine are planning to in-
stall the lights, donated by
Klamath First Bank.
Jana Fincher an-
nounced that plans are well
under way for the cham-
ber’s annual Concerts in
the Park series.
Pam Cooper, who op-
erates Clear Spaces in
Downtown Cave Junction,
said she is interested in
helping organize a Blue-
grass festival.
In addition, Jim Frick
suggested a Festival of
Trees, where businesses
would sponsor decorated
trees with gifts underneath.
The community could
view the trees for three
days, and there would be
an auction for the trees and
gifts, which would be de-
livered as part of the pack-
age.
