Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, December 17, 2003 Iver ‘Roy’ Jackson Iver (Roy) Jackson Iver Leroy (Roy) Jack- son, 68, of Cave Junction, died on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at Three Rivers Com- munity Hospital in Grants Pass. A celebration of life with an informal potluck will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Josephine County Bldg. in Cave Junction. Mr. Jackson was born on June 11, 1935 in Bell, Calif. He was raised in Arizona. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Naval Air during the Korean War as a pilot. After returning home he married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Lee Schaffer, and began his family. In 1978 he moved his family to Grants Pass. He served in Josephine and Jackson counties for 20 years in the EMS field as a firefighter and EMT paramedic for Valley Fire Service, Mercy Flights, Rogue Valley Hospital Emergency Room, Medic One Ambulance and A-C Valley Ambulance. Toward the end of his career he taught first aid and CPR locally and around the country for eight years. He instructed classes in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and Boston, Mass. After retirement Jack- son served in the Illinois Valley Lions Club and was elected president of the Illinois Valley Fire District Board. He used his prior experience in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program in Illinois Valley and worked with both the Illinois Val- ley and Kerby Community Response teams. In 1991 he was named Illinois Valley Citizen of the Year and was inducted into the Illinois Valley Fire District Hall of Flame in 1992. He enjoyed his family, friends, a good joke, a cup of coffee and a cigarette. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Lee Jackson; his seven children, Leo- nard Leroy Jackson, John Randolf Jackson, Kathleen Elizabeth Jackson, Mary Alice Pierce, Julia Ann Kirchner, Ronda Suesanne Jackson, and Robert Jo- seph Jackson; 22 grand- children; and six great- grandchildren. Elizabeth Green Elizabeth Green, 78, of Cave Junction died on Sunday, Dec. 14 at her residence. Arrangements are pending at Illinois Val- ley Funeral Home. Elias E. Norton Elias E. Norton, 26, of Cave Junction died on Sunday, Dec. 14 at his residence. Arrangements are pending at Illinois Val- ley Funeral Home. Robert McGregor Robert M. McGregor, 77, of Cave Junction died on Saturday, Dec. 6 at a care center in Grants Pass. Private services were arranged with interment at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Mr. McGregor was born on April 21, 1926, in Ishpeming, Mich. He retired as an aero- nautical, architectural en- gineer. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran. He moved to Illinois Valley in 1978 from San Diego. He was instrumental in construction of the Kerby Belt Lodge and was the Worshipful Master of the Kerby Belt Lodge, No. 18 in 1983. He also was involved in construction of the I.V. Golf Pro Shop, and was an avid golfer there. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Jean McGregor of Cave Junction; two daugh- ters, Kim of Medford, and Shelley of Telluride, Colo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Shirley Garringer Shirley Lee Garringer, 78, of Grants Pass, died on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 at her home. No services are planned. Southern Oregon Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Garringer was born on Dec. 14, 1924 in Gasconade, Miss. She was married on Oct. 11, 1943 in Clark County, Nev. to George Garringer, who preceded her in death on April 11, 2003. She was a long-time resident of O’Brien until moving to Grants Pass. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Rice of O’Brien; a son, Ron Gar- ringer of Central Point; a sister Virginia Brazil of Rogue River; five grand- children; and six great- grandchildren.
