Brookings pins Cougars in wrestling match
Brookings High stole
the show Tuesday night,
Dec. 2 by beating Illinois
Valley 44-32 in a non-
league dual wrestling
meet.
Charlie Stafford
picked up a win for the
Cougars with a 14-5 deci-
sion. Adam Miller won an
11-2 decision in the 135-
pound class. Jeremy Mar-
henke (140) won, 16-5.
Zach Pagnotta won the
145-pound class, 9-3.
Caleb Renno (160) won by
forfeit. And Duke Scott
(171) grabbed a 12-6 deci-
sion. The Cougars travel to
Gold Beach High School
Saturday, Dec. 13.

ODOT seeking contractors for emergency help
The Oregon Dept. of
Transportation (ODOT) is
seeking contractors who
can help keep traffic mov-
ing during an emergency,
or help the people who
keep that traffic moving.
“When storms, land-
slides, earthquakes, fires or
flooding stop traffic on
Oregon highways, ODOT
uses emergency contract
procedures to get traffic
moving again quickly,”
said State Highway Main-
tenance Engineer Doug
Tindall. “We need contrac-
tors to register their re-
sources -- the equipment
and materials they have
and what they can do -- so
we can find the right peo-
ple in a hurry when we
need them,” he said.

Group proposes to take at-risk kids on hikes in
Kalmiopsis and Siskiyous; public input sought
The U.S. Forest Ser-
vice is requesting public
input on a proposal to issue
a one-year temporary spe-
cial-use permit to Dragon-
fly Adventures Inc.
The permit would pro-
vide therapeutic wilderness
type backpacking trips for
“at risk” adolescents to
afford each child a unique
experience designed for
safety, self-examination
and personal growth.
Dragonfly Adventures
Inc. would be authorized to
operate within the northern
portion of the Kalmiopsis
Wilderness of the Siskiyou
National Forest for one
year using the following
trails: Illinois River, No.
1161, Shorty Noble, No.
1185, Pine Flat, No. 1219,
Florence Way, No. 1219A
and Collier Bar, No. 1182.
Group size would be
limited to no more than 11
people, but typically would
be 3 to 4 people including
staff.
Trips would be 7 to 14
days in length between late
spring and early fall.
Travel would be by
foot. No pack stock would
be used, no caches of
equipment would be al-
lowed, and no exclusive
use of campsites would be
granted.
Hunting, fishing or
other product collecting
would not be permitted.
Participants would be
taught and expected to fol-
low “Leave No Trace” out-
door ethic principles and
techniques.
Dragonfly Adventures,
Inc. is licensed by the Ore-
gon State Office of Ser-
vices to Children and
Families and is bonded and
insured.
Written comments on
this proposal are due no
later than Jan. 23.
