Private ser- vices were arranged through Illinois Valley Funeral Home. He was born on Sept. 13, 1943 in Oakland, Calif. He retired from the Oak- land Airport Fire Dept. as a firefighter. He moved to the valley in 2000 from Hayward Calif. He is survived by his wife Celia Robertson of Hayward Calif. Two sons, Carlos and Derek Robert- son, a daughter Terri Robertson, two sisters, Nancy McLean and Linda Wesley; a brother, Dennis Lemar and four grandchil- dren. Algie Spencer Jr. Algie James Spencer Jr., 80, of Kerby died on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003 at a rehabilitation center. No services are planned. Hull & Hull Fu- neral Directors is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Spencer was born on Oct. 17, 1923 in Padu- cah, Ky. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and oper- ated a dry cleaning busi- ness and also worked as a security guard after his retirement. He moved to Kerby six years ago from Gilroy, Calif. He enjoyed fishing and collecting rocks. He is survived by his son, Frank Spencer of Kerby. CJ woman injured in car accident Gretchen N. Johnson Keim Zeigler, 44, of Cave Junction was in critical condition at Providence Medford Medical Center after crashing her pickup truck into a tree Friday, Nov. 7, at 5:40 p.m. on the Redwood Highway. Her car was damaged so bad that she was extri- cated from the vehicle. Oregon State Police said that alcohol may have been a factor. Phlaum, granddaughter of Ronald Phlaum of Kerby, recently returned from an eight-month deployment to the western Pacific in sup- port of Operation Iraqi Freedom and international naval exercises including Foal Eagle, Tandem Thrust and Ulchi Focus Lens, while assigned to the air- craft carrier USS Carl Vin- son, home ported in Brem- erton, Wash. Phlaum is a 1999 graduate of Illinois Valley High School. Phlaum’s ship launched more than 10,000 sorties and covered 60,000 nautical miles, the equivalent to two trips around the world in sup- port of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
