BOOK LOOK - To celebrate the 2003 Children’s
Book Week on Nov. 17-23, Illinois Valley branch li-
brary is accepting entries for a T-shirt drawing to be
held on Nov. 25. The deadline for entries is Nov. 19.
Children in the eighth-grade and younger are eligible
and can enter each time they visit the library. The
theme this year is “Free to Read” and encourages chil-
dren, and the adults who care for them, spend some
time reading each day.
PERFECT SCORE - River Valley Restaurant in
Downtown Cave Junction recently received a 100 per-
cent score from Josephine County Health Dept. fol-
lowing an inspection in September. Beverly Thomas
owns the restaurant, which offers a variety of choices
on its menu.
ART LIVES HERE - Clear Spaces, a gallery fea-
turing fine photography and art glass, will hold its
grand opening on Friday, Nov. 14 during Art Walk.
The gallery is located next to Rising Suns in Down-
town Cave Junction and is open Tuesdays-Saturdays
from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
THERAPY ART - Artist and art therapist Claire
Sierra will host a reception on Friday, Nov. 14 at
BeBe’s Art For Everyone in Downtown Cave Junc-
tion at 5 p.m. Her mixed-media collage paintings ti-
tled “Soulscapes and Spirit Houses” will be on dis-
play in the gallery through Dec. 8
BIG 5-0 - Southern Oregon Federal Credit Union
is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and is of-
fering a variety of “Back to the Fifties” activities and
events throughout November, including an online
trivia contest, coloring contests and a Root Beer Float
Day at the CJ branch on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
BOOK BASH - Friends of I.V. Library will spon-
sor an USBORN BOOKS Party on Friday, Nov. 14
from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Josephine County Bldg. in
Downtown CJ. More than 100 titles will be available.
USBORN Books will donate a percentage of sales
toward the purchase of books for the I.V. branch.
BISCUIT AFTERMATH - Oregon Field Guide
will examine the aftermath of the Biscuit Fire in a
television special on Oregon Public Broadcasting sta-
tions on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 8:30 p.m.
NOTEPAD - To help raise funds for the Lorna
Byrne Football Club, members will be accepting or-
ders for fresh Christmas wreaths until Saturday, Nov.
15. The wreaths will be ready to pick up during the
week of Dec. 8-12. To order phone Diane at 596-
2968...The Cave Junction Lions Club will host its
second annual turkey bingo event on Saturday, Nov.
15 at 6 p.m. at the Josephine County Bldg. in Down-
town CJ. Doors will open at 5 p.m...Josephine
County Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)
will hand out red ribbons on Saturday, Nov. 22 at
Fred Meyer in Grants Pass and on Friday, Dec. 12 at
Dutch Bros Coffee on Sixth Street in GP...Thanks to
a $500 donation from Kim and Virginia Kemper dur-
ing a recent community reception, and another $500
in donations from other I.V. residents, I.V. Safe
House Alliance met its challenge gift
amount...Evergreen Elementary School teacher Re-
becca Kelly and her fourth-grade class were honored
recently by the nonprofit organization Trees For Life
for their donation of $312. The gift will help people
living in India.
I.V. Golf Association
The Illinois Valley
Golf Association Board
meeting will be held Tues-
day, Nov. 18 at the golf
course clubhouse.
