Mazama spoils Cougars’ playoff dreams
Illinois Valley’s foot-
ball play-off hopes came to
a screeching halt on Satur-
day, Oct. 25 as Mazama
walked away with a 28-21
win at I.V. High School.
Illinois Valley running
back Mike Pagnotta pulled
himself up to one knee and
looked exhausted in the
fourth quarter as the-
Vikings put the kibosh on
his final drive of the sea-
son.
Pagnotta, who led his
team with 1,240 yards this
season on 163 carries for
21 touchdowns, was
stopped a couple yards
short of getting a much
needed first down for the
Cougars deep in the red
zone in the final minutes of
the game.
As Mazama let the
final seconds drip off the
clock, Illinois Valley’s
playoff hopes also melted
away. A win would have
put the Cougs in the Class
3A state playoffs. Instead
Mazama and North Valley
lead the league (4-1) and
Phoenix sits in third with a
3-2 record.
The Cougars held a
21-20 lead after three quar-
ters. But Ryan McGraw,
Mazama’s quarterback,
broke free for a 68-yard

someone stabbed him with
a knife. He said he sewed
the wound back together.

Caves Hwy. a woman said
she saw another woman
screaming and trying to
jump out of a moving car.
A man had his hand on her
neck and there was blood
visible, she said. Deputies
were unable to locate the
couple.
*In the 2700 block of
Holland Loop Road a
teacher said she received a
verbal death threat from
one of her students on the
telephone. Deputies filed a

in the second quarter on a
7 yard run. Illinois Valley
was down 20-13 in the
third quarter when Pag-
notta fumbled the ball into
the end zone and Josh
Pope picked it up for a
touchdown. The Cougars
ended the season with a
record of 6-3 overall and
3-3 Skyline.

hang-up turned out to be a
5-year-old girl playing
with the phone.
*A woman in the

Hwy. said a loud generator
was keeping her awake.
The generator was sitting
by a trailer but didn’t seem
to be connected to any-
thing.
*Jesse Arthur Ernest
Lorentz, 17, was cited on
a charge of speeding on
Holland Loop Road near
Caves Hwy.
Thursday, Oct. 16
*In the 200 block of
Iron Way a woman said
there was a prowler on her
property. Deputies were
unable to locate anyone
suspicious.
*Near the intersection
of Old Stage Road and
Wells Drive a man said he
saw someone standing in
the road wearing all black
and a backpack. He did not
answer repeated questions.
Deputies investigated a
truck where the man in
black had been seen sleep-
ing but he was not there.
*In the 800 block of
Caves Camp Road a man
said he saw someone shoot
a gun from a truck and
then take off. The truck
then returned to the area.
Deputies advised the Ore-
gon State Police due to
possible poaching.
*A man in the 200
block of W. Stevenson
Street wanted the welfare
of another man checked
on. Deputies said he was
fine.
*On Onion Mountain
Road a man said his son
was missing after a hunt-
ing trip. Later in the day
the man reported that his
son returned home.
*In the 200 block of
Finch Road a man said he
found a stolen vehicle. A
tow-truck was called to get
the vehicle.
*In the 520 block of
W. River Street a citizen
said an 11-year-old boy
was destroying a class-
room. Deputies placed a
the boy on a peace officer
mental hold.
*In the 24300 block of
Redwood Hwy. a woman
said a man and woman had
a verbal argument over
rent money. No crime was
committed.
*In the 600 block of
Old Stage Road a man said
two bicycles were stolen
from his home.
*In the 1800 block of
Laurel Road a woman said
someone used her vehicle
without her permission.

woman said she saw two

After 25 years behind
bars, he met Jesus. Now he
writes for our prison min-
istry, and his book, “A
Walk to Freedom,” is in
the works.
Duncan, one more of
our willing volunteers, is
another one rescued from
the chains of sin. He
walked free from an Ore-
gon prison more than a
year ago. Because of re-
cent back surgery he has to
take it slow and easy, but
we praise God for His
healing.
Sunny and Walt are
two more of our volunteers
who help Life Lines and
write for the newsletter.
She is free from a Utah
prison, and came back to
Cave Junction. She is so
sunny and full of life.
Walt goes with my
husband, Doug, each Sat-
urday to haul a load of
bread from Grants Pass for
distribution to our people
here in Illinois Valley.
We have a precious
bunch of saints, and I hope
to talk about more of them
in other columns.
The important item for
us to remember is that we
walk on our road to free-
dom each moment. We
walk daily being led by the
Holy Spirit.
We have confidence in
God’s Word, and we have
surrendered our lives to
Jesus Christ.
We are on the right
road.
