Nolan, Creek jump the broom at Bridgeview
‘Jim’ Baker
A Celebration of Life
for James “Jim” Glenn
Baker, 73, of Cave Junc-
tion, who died at home on
Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003,
will be held on Sunday,
Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
It will be held in the
River Valley Village club-
house on Ollis Road in CJ.
Mr. Baker was born on
Nov. 9, 1929 in Dewitt,
Ark. He married his wife,
Phyllis, on March 10, 1962
in Arcata, Calif. He
worked for Boise-Cascade
and Medco, and did land-
scaping. He retired in Cave
Junction.
Mr. Baker enjoyed
camping at Lake Selmac
and being outside in the
morning. He also enjoyed
gardening, landscaping and
construction work.
Besides his wife of 41
years, he is survived by
five sons, Darrell of Cave
Junction, David of Sunny-
vale, Calif., Craig of
Korbel, Calif., Rodney of
Redding, Calif., and Mike
of Redmond, Ore.; two
daughters, Teri and Patty,
both of Medford; four
brothers, Gerald, Aubrey,
Harold and Larry; 16
grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
He also leaves behind
his dog, “Sam.”
His parents, Garland
and Sena Baker, and a
daughter, Catherine Shack-
ley, died before he did.
Arrangements are by
Grants Pass Funeral Alter-
natives. Memorial contri-
butions can be sent to
Lovejoy Hospice, the
American Cancer Society,
or Humane Society.
Lawrence Loban
Lawrence W. Loban,
86, of McMinnville, Ore.,
who was married to former
Illinois Valley resident
Helen Floyd, died on Sept.
23, 2003 in a rest home in
McMinnville. He was in-
terred in the Masonic
Cemetery in McMinnville.
Mr. Loban was born
on Jan. 25, 1917 in
McMinnville. He served
four years in the U.S.
Navy, and was a member
of the U.S. Coast Guard
Auxiliary for 30 years. He
was retired from the
McMinnville Water &
Light Co., for which he
worked 31 years.
He is survived by his
wife, Helen Floyd Loban
of McMinnville; a stepson,
John Ulrich of Lakeside,
Mont.; a daughter, Laura
Hornbrook of Tigard, Ore.;
and a brother, Gerald Lo-
ban of Coos Bay, Ore.
Arrangements were han-
dled by Macy & Son Fu-
neral Directors of
McMinnville.

Junction and Michael
Creek of Grants Pass were
married at Bridgeview
Winery on Saturday, Sept.
6, by Pastor Mark McLean.
The
ceremony was
followed by a reception at
the same location with
food provided by family
and friends.
The maids of honor
were Iris Kersting of East
Takilma and JoJo “Boom
Boom” Henderson of Coos
Bay. Junior bridesmaid
was Morgan Hansen,
flower girl was Rilynn
Hansen, both nieces of the
bride, both of Grants Pass.
The groomsmen were
on Sunday, Aug. 24 at
Rogue Valley Medical
Center, Medford.
No service was held.
Conger Morris was in
charge of cremation, with
ashes to be scattered at sea
at a later date.
Mr. Miller was born
on Jan. 3, 1948 in Upland,
Calif., and graduated from
Norte Vista High School in
1966. He served in the
U.S. Navy from 1966 to
1970 as an aviation ma-
chinist mate attached to a
helicopter squadron out of
New Jersey.
In September, 1972 he
married Lois M. Noyes.
They divorced in 1984. In
‘86 he married Cheryl Ann
Close and divorced in ‘99.
Mr. Miller had been a
member of the American
Mountain Men in Southern
Calif. and enjoyed old
black powder guns and
fishing. He was employed
at True Value Hardware in
Cave Junction.
Survivors are his son
Elgin Ross Miller of Bal-
son Spa, N.Y., who is in
the U.S. Navy; his mother,
Francis Miller of Holton,
Kan.; two sisters, Doris
Pelton of Mayetta, Kan.,
and Karen Weygandt of
Nampa, Idaho; and one
grandson.
The Creeks
Telly Martinez and Jona-
than Wilder both of Grants
Pass. Ringbearer was the
bride’s nephew, Walker
York of Grants Pass.
After returning from a
honeymoon in Maui, the
Creeks have made Grants
Pass their home.
The bride works for
the veterinary office of Dr.
