First chamber golf successful event
Shooting a 67 took the
low gross championship
for a team sponsored by
“Illinois Valley News” at
the Sept. 20 golf tourna-
ment sponsored by I.V.
Chamber of Commerce.
The 1st place team for
low net was comprised of
Ed Weitzel and Kit Fluck,
who were sponsored by
Bridgeview Winery. Their
score was either “60 or 61
or somewhere else in the
low 60s.”
The chamber fun fund-
raiser, held at I.V. Golf
Course, is planned as an
annual event. Chamber

27th JoCo meth lab bust
Detectives offer informational sessions for groups
Lawmen seized the
27th methamphetamine lab
found in Josephine County
this year on Saturday
morning, Sept. 27 in rural
Grants Pass at 7071 Monu-
ment Drive, said Josephine
Interagency Narcotics
Team (JOINT).
Arrested were Dennis
L. Prior, 49; and Cynthia
Ann Prior, 36. Each was
charged with manufactur-
ing, delivery and posses-
sion of a controlled sub-
stance/meth; and posses-
sion of precursor drugs/
meth, said JOINT.
The agency provided
the following account:
Detectives since early
spring followed leads indi-
cating that the Priors may
have been involved in
manufacturing meth. Dur-
ing the search warrant ser-
vice, officers found iodine,
red phosphorus, pseu-
doephedrine and various

solvents -- all precursor
chemicals used in the
manufacture of meth.
In addition, several
grams of finished meth
were located in nearly
every room of the couple’s
home. Detectives also
found evidence of the sale
of meth, including packag-
ing material.
JOINT said that it
would like to educate the
public on the dangers of
meth in the community.
“Our detectives con-
duct two-hour educational
presentations on the pro-
duction, hazards and ef-
fects of methampheta-
mine,” said JOINT.
“If you belong to a
civic organization or
Neighborhood Watch pro-
gram, and are interested in
knowing more about the
meth problem in our com-

The Illinois Valley
Prancers 4-H club had a
banner year in 2003, at
both the Josephine County
Fair and in state competi-
tion.
Brandi Miller, Cassie
Wood, Chelsea Calhoun
and Renee Herndon
showed great effort at the
fair.
Miller won her first
blue ribbons competing in
the Novice Division, while
Wood had her best year
ever earning four blue rib-
bons in her gaming classes.
Herndon shined, tak-
ing champion ribbons in
Trail, Gaming, Hunter
Hack, Dressage and Gam-
blers Choice Trail.
Qualifying high for
state fair, she came away
with medallions in Dres-
sage and English Equita-
tion.
Calhoun, who was
planning for college, sup-
ported the team from the
ground this year.
(SOFCU) office in Cave
Junction, came up with the
idea for the event and or-
ganized it. The first golf
contest sponsored by the
chamber had 10 two-
person teams.
Low gross winners
with 67 were Mike Inge
and Rich Bowers, spon-
sored by the “Noose.”
Second-place gross
winners were Todd Johan
and Joel Moore, sponsored
by Rising Suns Gift Shop.
In third place was the I.V.
Golf Course team of Char-
lie McDonald and Kit
Fluck.
On the net side, 2nd-
place winners were David
Lee and Carl Roberts,
sponsored by Carlos
Restaurante. Third-place
victors were Vern Klicker
and Dan Klicker, spon-
sored by Creative Wildlife
Studio.
Other team sponsors
