The legal system is
attacking our liberty -- the
very thing to which it has
been created (by man) to
protect and preserve. Is not
liberty the restricting of the
law only to its rational
sphere of organizing the
right of the individual to
lawful self-defense; of
punishing injustice. The
responsibility of govern-
ment is to extend indefi-
nitely the domain of the
law.
It is not true that the
function of law is to regu-
late our conscience, our
ideas our wills our educa-
tion, our opinions, our
work, our trade, our talents
or our pleasures. The func-
tion of law is to regulate
our conscience, our ideas,
our wills, our education,
our opinions, our work,
our trade, our talents, or
our pleasures. The function
of law is to protect the free
exercise of these rights,
and to prevent any person
from interfering with the
free exercise of these same
rights by any other person.
Ra ym o n d Ro n a l d
Karczewski is currently in
the Josephine County Jail.
Karczewski has an under-
standing of what legisla-
tors and do-gooders have
so futilely inflected upon
society. He has refused to
acquiesce to their social-
ized projects, their corpo-
rate regulations, and their
domination. He has jeop-
ardized his life, liberty,
and property (as did our
forefathers) to protect and
defend our liberty (the oath
his persecutors have sworn
to protect and defend.)
Every American who
desires the blessings of
liberty owes all patriots
(living and dead) for their
sacrifices. Here is your
chance. Phone those re-
sponsible for his imprison-
ment and voice your opin-
ion.
Take a stand for free-
dom. Does patriotism end
with merely flying the
American flag? Does patri-
otism require commitment,
action, sacrifice, and the
overcoming of our fear of
getting personally involved
and challenging the powers
who reign over us?
Ask them, “If we are
faithful to our conscience
and challenge our govern-
ment, might we also lose
our freedom?” God has
given to us all that is nec-
essary to accomplish our
destinies … liberty is an
acknowledgment of faith
in God and His works
(Frederic Bastiat).
‘Pool
support
needed’
From Joan Guilbert
Selma
I’m guessing that most
Illinois Valley residents
aren’t aware that the Cave
Junction pool is open and
wonderful.
I’ve been enjoying and
benefiting from the great
water aerobics classes that
Laurie is teaching. Last
year the pool was crowded
for these classes, but not
this year.
Julia Kirchner is doing
a good job managing the
pool, and even offered a
party with pizza and water-
melon on a recent Friday
night.
I think it’s important to
support our pool, now that
Please don’t
drink and drive.
FAIR FUN - Illinois Valley Future Farm-
ers of America members earned top

just two of the several competitors who
placed high on the judges’ lists. Jakob
White (photo above) was named Su-
preme Champion in the market hog cate-
gory. Kira McBride (photo right) won as
Supreme Champion in the market lamb
category. To find out the rest of the I.V.
FFA members placed, turn to page 5.

the city is in charge. We
can’t afford to lose it.
Phone 592-3990 for hours
and information and come
and join one of the classes.
‘Restore our state’
Jack A. Brown, Jr.
Grants Pass
The Oregon Territory
was “civilized” by God-
fearing people. Some of
those people are honored
by statues in the grounds
around the Oregon Capitol.
They did not force
their views on others,
merely acquainted them
with the tenets of their
faith. As people voluntar-
ily accepted those tenets,
