Saturday, May 24
*In the 24500 block of
Redwood Hwy. a teen-age
boy repeatedly passed out,
possibly due to medication.
Deputies called American
Medical Response.
*A mother was advised to
clothe her children if they
were outside due to the fact
that a sex offender lives in the
area of the 100 block of Junc-
tion Avenue. An anonymous
neighbor complained after the
children were seen running
around naked.
*Kirk R. Owen, 23, was
cited on a charge of speeding
at the intersection of Waldo
Road and Redwood Hwy.
*James L. Sumner, 29,
was cited on a charge of DWS
in the 200 block of S. Red-
wood Hwy.
*A man in the 100 block
of Patton Bar Road said he
thought there was a fire in his
chicken coop. No assistance
was needed, deputies said.
Sunday, May 25
*An audible alarm was
heard at Speedy Mart in
Downtown Cave Junction be-
tween 1 and 4:30 a.m. No
crimes were located.
*Someone reportedly
damaged a woman’s rental
property at 2 a.m. in the 100
block of S. Kerby Avenue.
*A man reported that an
alarm at Kerbyville Museum
was going off at 9:54 a.m. The
alarm reset itself.
*In the 4900 block of
Happy Camp Road. Douglas
Gillette, 52, was found dead
by his neighbor at 10:33 a.m.
The neighbor was visiting Gil-
lette to borrow a cigarette.
Deputies said that Gillette
died from natural causes.
*A woman in the 1400
block of Sun Glo Drive said
that a neighbor threw dog fe-
ces at her driveway. Deputies
contacted the neighbor, who
denied any wrong doing.
*The driver of a vehicle
was transported to Three Riv-
ers Hospital after he hit an
embankment in the 4700
block of Caves Hwy.
*Deputies received a
noise complaint from an
anonymous caller in the 10400
block of Takilma Road.
*Two motorcycle riders
said they were harassed by a
resident in the 500 block of
Slate Creek. Deputies advised
the resident of his options to
pursue the matter civilly due
to a trespassing complaint.
*Deputies assisted a man
in the 1000 block of Sucker
Creek Road, who was camp-
ing after his vehicle was
wrecked.
*A citizen alerted police
that a driver was passing vehi-
cles on the right side near the
summit of Hay’s Hill at 4:26
p.m. Deputies advised OSP.
*A woman said she felt
threatened by her husband and
wanted him to leave their resi-
dence in the 17500 block of
Redwood Hwy. Deputies ad-
vised both of civil options.
*A citizen said that a van
was being driven erratically
on Redwood Hwy. near Lau-
rel Road.
*Someone reportedly
threw a bottle at a man at 10
p.m. near the intersection of
Reeves Creek Road and S.
Shore Drive.
*A woman hit the “no
parking” sign in front of
Speedy Mart at 10:45 p.m.
*In the 130 block of N.
Redwood Hwy. someone put
soap in the Evergreen Federal
waterfall at 11:21 p.m.
Monday, May 26
*A man in the 18400
block of Redwood Hwy. re-
ported a reckless driver on a
motorcycle. Deputies warned
the motorcycle rider.
*Deputies responded to a
single-vehicle motorcycle
crash near the intersection of
Finch Road and Westside
Road at 2:52 p.m. The rider
crashed into a ditch and
“flew” over a nearby fence.
He was transported to Three
Rivers Hospital.
*A car was on the shoul-
der of the road near Hay’s Hill
after the driver hit a deer at
10:08 p.m.
Tuesday, May 27
*There was a 911 hang-up
reported in the 500 block of
Queen of Bronze Road. When
contacted by the 911 operator,
a man said his son was having
a diabetic seizure, but was
OK. He was advised to not
hang up without disclosing
such information in the future.
*A stop sign was knocked
over at the intersection of
Waldo Road and Suncrest
Drive at 7:30 p.m.
*In the 1000 block of
Crooks Creek Road a man
said he saw a large amount of
gray smoke to the east. He
was advised of several con-
trolled burns in the Hidden
Valley and Applegate area.
*A woman reported that
someone was checking out her
mail box in the 3800 block of
Caves Hwy. When she looked
in the box there was no mail.
She returned later and discov-
ered mail in the box. She said
nothing seemed to be missing.
*Deputies assisted a
woman whose teen-ager was
“out of control” in the 1700
block of White School House
Road.
*An anonymous woman
reported a suspicious vehicle
in the 200 block of June
Drive. She said that loud mu-
sic was coming from a blue
van and that people were
sneaking around in her
bushes.

Wednesday, May 28
A citizen in the 200 block
of W. Watkins Street said a
man was cussing and yelling
on the parking lot of Shop
Smart. The man took off his
shirt and went from “hysteria
to yelling.” Deputies said the
man was not a danger to him-
self or others and reported that
he moved on.
*Donald D. Bernald, 42,
was cited on a charge of driv-
ing while uninsured and driv-
ing while suspended (DWS) at
Caves Hwy. and Caves Ave.
at 10:24 a.m.
*A woman in the 5800
block of Lakeshore Drive said
that her car was repossessed
at 10:37 a.m.
*In the 300 block of Old
Stage Road a woman said that
two men have been living in
her attic for several months
and will not leave. Deputies
said that the complaint was
unfounded.
*Deputies conducted a
welfare check after an alarm
went off at a residence in the
200 block of Ollis Road. The
resident was fine, according to
deputies.
*A citizen said someone
dumped a holding tank at the
end of Lone Mountain Road.
Deputies were unable to find
the spill and said county road
crews may have cleaned it
during routine ditch cleaning.
*Deputies responded to a
restraining order violation in
the 4800 block of Dick
George Road. A woman said
that her estranged husband
returned to her house without
permission.
*In the 300 block of
Kerby Avenue a woman said a
young boy threatened to shoot
her son in the head with a .BB
gun. She said the boy was
raising the gun when she
grabbed it from his hand.
Deputies warned and coun-
seled the parents and children
involved.
*A man was advised by
deputies of his civil options
after he complained that he
was not getting paid for land-
scaping work.
*A man filed a runaway
report when his son failed to
return home in the 500 block
of Deer Creek Road.
*In the 10500 block of
Takilma Road a woman said a
new battery for her pickup
valued at $75 was missing.
*A man in the 5800 block
of Lakeshore Drive said his
vehicle was missing at 9:26
p.m.
*A woman reported that
someone driving a blue station
wagon crossed over the fog
line twice in the 33000 block
of Redwood Hwy.
*A citizen heard five gun-
shots near the intersection of
Lakeshore Drive and
McMullen Creek Road at
11:19 p.m.
Thursday, May 29
*Woody John Nelson, 18,
was cited and released on a
charge of reckless driving and
failing to carry and present a
driver’s license in the 600
block of Deer Creek Road at
1:44 a.m.
*Minutes later, deputies
advised Woody John Nelson
that he could no longer drive
without insurance near Squaw
Mountain Road and Redwood
Hwy. at 1:48 a.m. A teen-age
girl violating curfew was re-
turned to her mother by depu-
ties.
*Russell Randall Ballard,
50, was arrested and lodged in
the Josephine County Jail on
charges of manufacturing,
delivery and possession of
methamphetamine and for
DWS at 2:38 a.m. at 200
Palmer St.

FISHING DERBY ‘FIN’-ISHERS - Approximately 800 youths and adults from throughout South-
western Oregon converged at Lake Selmac on Saturday, June 7 for the annual Kids’ Fishing
Derby, sponsored primarily by Grants Pass Kiwanis Club with help from a number of other
organizations. Crystal Kime, 13, of Murphy (top left) took first place in her age group with a
22-inch, 5-pound trout. Mike Shinault, 11, (above) a student at Lorna Byrne Middle School in
Cave Junction, was the proud possessor of two big trout. Grand prize winner was Kirt Robin-
son, 6, who landed a trout measuring 22 3/4-inches and weighing 5 pounds-14 ounces. The
winners won prizes provided by sponsors.

Rogue Community Col-
lege is working to build part-
nerships among employers in
Josephine and Jackson coun-
ties and RCC students.
Rogue Valley employers
can post job openings and em-
ployment opportunities on the
RCC Student Employment
Services Web site at
www.roguecc.edu.emp.
Job postings will benefit
RCC students and graduates
of the college as well as area
businesses.
Many of the students
come from a variety of age
groups are interested in work-
ing while they attend school.
There is no cost to em-
ployers for this service, who
