Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, April 9, 2003 Florette Elizabeth Andrews Florette Elizabeth An- drews, 94, of Cave Junction, died on Saturday, March 22, 2003 in a Grants Pass facility. A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 13 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cave Junction with Pastor Harold Premdas officiating. Private interment was at Eagle Point National Ceme- tery. Hull & Hull Funeral Di- rectors handled arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to 3ABN, P.O. Box 220, West Frankfort, Ill. 62896; or to Amazing Facts, P.O. Box 1058, Roseville, Calif. 95678. Mrs. Andrews was born Sept. 7, 1908 in Centerville, near Ferndale, Calif. On Jan. 2, 1952 she married Vernon Andrews, who survives. They were married 51 years. She was a longtime mem- ber of the Cave Junction Sev- enth-day Adventist Church. Besides her husband, Vernon Andrews of Cave Junction; she is survived by her children, Jack Hurst of Fortuna, Calif., Barbara McKay of Gasquet, Calif., Doris McKay of Fort Dick, Calif., and Donald Hurst of Cave Junction; 15 grandchil- dren; 28 great-grandchildren; and ei ght gre at- great- grandchildren. A son, Verden Hurst, died before her. Walter Varnell Gillespie Walter Varnell Gillespie, 82, of Cave Junction, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 18 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cave Junction. The Rev. Bob He- isler will officiate. Interment will be at Mt. Veeder Ceme- tery, in Napa, Calif. Arrangements were han- dled through Illinois Valley Funeral Home. It is the fam- ily’s wish that donations be given directly to the family. Mr. Gillespie was born Jan. 10, 1921, in Vallejo, Calif. He retired from Civil Service with the U.S. Navy at Mare Island Naval Base in California as a metal spinner. He moved to Illinois Valley in 1964 from Napa. He became a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and raised cattle, operating the Navaho Cattle Co. He also worked as a carpenter in the valley. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Gillespie of Cave Junction; two sons, Clif- ford Gillespie of Bend, Ore., and Robert Gillespie of Prine- ville, Ore.; two daughters, Patricia Gillespie of Theins- ville, Wis. and Priscella Lewis, of Veneta, Ore., five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Albert on Jan. 9, 1965, in La Jolla, Calif. He retired as a general building contractor from the San Francisco Bay Area. He moved to Illinois Valley in 1998 from Castro Valley, Calif. Besides his wife he is sur- vived by a daughter, Judy Stafford of Beaverton, Ore.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Ruth Marguerite King Ruth Marguerite King, 80, of Cave Junction, died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thurs- day, April 10 at Fountain of Life Assembly of God in Cave Junction with Pastor Mark McLean officiating. Ms. King was born on Sept. 26, 1922 in Alsea, Ore. She spent the majority of her life in the Rogue Valley area where she lived, worked, and retired. She was an active member of her church and did volun- teer work throughout her life. She traveled to China with a missionary group in the late 1980s. She liked to knit, crochet, make dolls for her great- grandchildren. Survivors are her young- est son, Michael King of Seat- tle; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Kitty King Tucker of Lan- glois, Ore.; and a number of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, James; a daughter, Karen; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Evelyn King Tucker and Bertha King Wheeler. Todd R. Rudd Todd Robert Rudd, 79, of Selma, died on Monday, April 7, 2003 at a Grants Pass nurs- ing center. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at First Love Chris- tian Fellowship Church in Cave Junction with the Rev. Bob Kurko officiating. A potluck will follow the service. Local arrangements were handled through Illinois Valley Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial do- nations to the building fund for the church, of which he was a member. Mr. Rodd was born July 11, 1923 in Portland, Ore. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran from World War II and the Korean War.
