Kennedy of Ore- Good Shepherd Lutheran Discipline, even if only for Lent, is difficult, whether it involves giving up sweets, alcohol or something else. For Jesus, discipline meant even- tually giving up the things people liked him to do: heal the sick and feed the poor. He was sent to die for our sins. How much easier should it be for us to give up a few minor things for Lent? Church activities include: Thursday, March 20, 6 p.m., Lenten Soup and Study at St. Mathias Episcopal Church; Sunday, March 23, 9 a.m., worship, 10:15 a.m. Sunday school, 6 p.m., high school youth group; Friday, April 4, 7 p.m., Captive Free Family Concert; he community can attend. St. Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church St. Patrick of the Forest will hold it spring rummage sale in the Elliott Center on Friday, April 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Disciples in Mission groups will prepare for the Fourth Sunday of Lent by re- flecting on John’s Gospel, Chapter 3, which includes Verse 16. Sunday Mass time will change on Sunday, April 6 to 9 a.m. and will continue until the conclusion of day- light-saving time. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life,” John 3:16. What does it mean? It means God loves us beyond all measure– we are his crea- tion and, as such, he gave his only son to die for us. Can it be any clearer? This week’s activities in- clude: Thursday, April 3, at 6 p.m., Lenten Soup and Study at the Methodist Church; Fri- day, April 4, at 7 p.m., Cap- tive Free Concert. The com- munity is invited. Sunday, April 6, at 9 a.m., church ser- vice, 10:15 a.m., Sunday school. Immanuel United Methodist Church Getting ready for Easter is what Lent is all about. There is a lot planned with Good Shepherd Lutheran and St. Matthias Episcopal. Lenten studies are continuing on Thursday, April 3 at 6 p.m. St. Matthias will be the host and Immanuel and Good Shepherd Light Eaters Dinner Menu 4 to 8 p.m. Now serving lunch all day - ‘til closing Tuesday-Saturday: 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday: 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Closed Monday) will bring bread. Other church events: Wednesday, April 9 at 6 p.m., trustees will meet. At 7 p.m. program committee and at 7:30 p.m. a community con- cert. Valley Evangelical Free Church Pastor Patty’s sermon was from Matthew 5:13-16. These verses teach that we are to be the salt of the Earth and the light of the world. Salt and light resonated with the people of Jesus’ day. Salt had a very important place in their lives. It had to be added for seasoning as well as a preservative. Jesus wants all of us to be the salt of the Earth. We are also to be the light of the world. To cover that light would not be what Jesus would want us to do. On Sunday, April 6 our Sunday evening service will be an “all-church service” at Community Bible Church at 6. Teen Rally with Klamath Falls will be in Cave Junction on Friday, April 11 through Sun- day, April 13. The youth will provide our entire Sunday ser- vice. All are invited to attend this inspirational service. 20 years experience - Meets state regulations - Insured Phone 592-3199 - Free estimates - Money is available Cell Phone (541) 659-3471 RUMMAGE SALE FRIDAY AND SATURDAY APRIL 4 & 5 9 A.M.
