65th milestone
for Gammels
Henry and Mildred Gam-
mel celebrated their 65th wed-
ding anniversary on Wednes-
day, Dec. 18.
“Hank and Millie,” as
they are fondly called, moved
to Cave Junction in 1949 from
Los Angeles. He helped build
the former Illinois Valley
High School, now Lorna
Byrne Middle School. He then
went to work for the former
Caves Building Supplies, and
was a fixture there until he
retired in 1977.
She worked for Caves
Building Supplies for a short
time and then was employed
as a bookkeeper for the former
CalGas, now Amerigas, where
she retired in 1981.
The Gammels were active
in the community. He belongs
to Illinois Valley Lions Club.
And she is involved in Illinois
Valley Garden Club and has
held several titles.
