Page 12 I-5 shooting suspects still being sought Oregon State Police troop- ers and other officers are seek- ing three men suspected in the fatal shooting of a man on Interstate 5, a short distance south of Roseburg. At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, OSP responded to the shooting near milepost 113 on the lanes for southbound traffic. An unidentified Hispanic male was killed while driving on the freeway. The gunfire reportedly came from a nearby vehicle, described as a green Mercury four-door sedan, which was traveling the same direction, according to OSP. The suspect vehicle was later found abandoned near a McDonald’s Restaurant at exit 103. The occupants are still at large and are described as: *Hispanic male adult, 6-1, slender build, shoulder-length black hair, wearing a black cap and carrying a white sack. *Hispanic male adult, 5- 10, slender build, short black hair, wearing a dark baseball type cap. *Hispanic male adult, 5- 10, slender build, black hair, wearing a black jacket, white T-shirt and carrying a white bag. Identification of the de- ceased man is being withheld until next of kin is notified. Unattended candle cause of GP blaze Grants Pass Fire/Rescue and Rural/Metro Fire Dept. responded to a structure fire at 720 S.W. “L” St. Apt. B on Monday, Dec. 16. Units found a small one- bedroom apartment with heavy fire showing from the rear of the structure. Crews initiated an aggressive interior attack and quickly extin- guished the fire. Grants Pass Fire/Rescue responded with two engine companies and a duty officer. Rural/Metro responded with two engine companies, with American Medical Response providing medical stand-by. The resident, Skie Sells, suffered a minor burn while attempting to extinguish the fire. Sells, her two children, and two pets safely exited. An investigation was con- ducted, and the cause of the fire was determined to be an unattended candle. There were no smoke detectors present. Damages are estimated at $13,500. ODOT funds GP sidewalks Grants Pass will receive $126,350 in grant funding from Oregon Dept. of Trans- portation to improve side- walks and crossing improve- ments on 9th St. The grants are part of the Oregon Bicycle and Pedes- trian local-grant program that prov id es app rox imat el y $2,000,000 to Oregon cities and counties for pedestrian and bicycle facility improve- ments.
