Property Tax
Appeals needs
board member
Applications from volun-
teers to fill a vacancy on the
Board of Property Tax Ap-
peals (BOPTA) are being ac-
cepted by the Josephine
County Board of Commis-
sioners.
With the passage of Meas-
ure 50, Oregon’s property tax
system has been transformed
from a levy-based system to a
rate-based system, where
taxes imposed are calculated
by applying the permanent tax
rates to assessed valued.
The amount of taxes im-
posed depends primarily on
assessed value, which face
annual growth limits of 3 per-
cent, officials said.
Calculation sessions run
from the first Monday in Feb-
ruary to no later than April 15.
The deadline for accepting
applications to the board is
Friday, Oct. 18, according to
information received Oct.10.
