(Photo by Sam Newton) Asante adds housing for RVMC Asante’s Francis Cheney Family Place (FCP) is grow- ing to meet the needs of pa- tients and their families with three additional rooms, bring- ing the total to 15. “Asante realizes the im- portance of keeping patients and their families together,” said Sharon Young, program manager. “The FCP expansion shows our commitment to helping entire families in medical emergencies.” FCP is located across from Rogue Valley Medical Center (RVMC) campus. It’s a haven for as many as 600 families that travel here each year to be near a loved one. There is a small fee. FCP offers families an affordable place to stay within walking distance of RVMC. It provides a clean, quiet envi- ronment of out-of-town cancer patients who want to remain in Medford for the duration of their radiation treatment. “We take in hundreds of people each year, yet we still have to turn down requests for housing on a daily basis,” Young said. “The addition of three rooms will allow us to open the doors for up to nine more patients or family mem- bers before the house is full again.” Since the FCP opened in 1994, the occupancy rate has averaged at least 90 percent on any given day. drive drunk! Corrections *A “Police Blotter” item in the Sept. 18 issue contained an error. The item read that Leif T. Devin Carrier, 15, was cited on charges including distribution and possession of a controlled substance I. It has since been deter- mined that Carrier was not cited on the controlled sub- stance charges. Rather, they have been referred for review to the Josephine County Juve- nile Dept. “Illinois Valley News” regrets the error. *In addition, there was a misspelled word in last week’s “Blotter.” The correct spelling of the word noted is “camouflage.” So much for spell-checking ...
