It is time to start thinking about seeds! February and March are the time to start getting seeds, planning your gardening, and for some plants starting seedlings! We wanted to share the different places to access gardening resources. We have some resources for free seeds we would like to share with you. The Siletz Farm is awesome about sending seed packets to the different access point’s Tribal Member use and they provide them for free. Check your local area office in Salem, Portland, and Eugene to see if they are providing them, or ask when you come to visit and check out the farm. Portland Area Multnomah County OSU Extension Program Multnomah County 3880 SE 8th Avenue, #170 Portland, OR 97202 The Portland OSU extension office has consistent educational events around gardening! Check out their website at extension.oregonstate.edu/portland We found these resource opportunities for seeds and gardening in Ore- gon online. You can visit the Clackamas County Seeds for sharing program, which has free seed resources at Gladstone and Oak Lodge libraries. Here’s how it works: • View the seed library catalog for each library online. • Visit the seed library at one, or both, libraries, place your seeds into envelopes, and take them to the circulation desk for checkout. • You can check out up to 12 Seeds-for-Sharing envelopes per day. Gladstone Public Library is located at 135 E Dartmouth St. in Gladstone and the Oak Lodge Public Library is at 16201 SE McLoughlin Blvd. in Oak Grove. The City of Milwaukie’s Ledding Library offers a seed library with beans, peas, herbs and flowers. You can check out up to 10 varieties of seeds per visit. Here’s how the library operates: • Place your seeds in a Seeds of Thanks envelope. • Label the envelope with the plant name, variety and planting notes. • Take your seeds to our circulation desk for check out (max. 10 varieties). The library encourages you to donate any unused seeds back to the Mil- waukie Ledding Library 8 • Siletz News • March 2025 Lake Oswego Public Library’s Free Seeds for All program provides garden- ing information and free vegetable, herb and flower seeds. Once you locate the seed type you want: • Remove a few seeds from the packet and place them in one of the pro- vided coin envelopes. • Label it with the plant name, variety and any information you’d like from the seed packet. • Then check out your seeds at the circulation desk. Once you’re done planting your seeds, returning saved seeds is encouraged, but not required. The library also hosts a seed of the month with a limited number of free, grab-and-go seed packets available.
