    Joshua Johnson – 1979-2023
Proud Siletz Tribal member Joshua
Johnson walked on peacefully at home
in bed on April 29, 2023, at the age of
44 in Portland, Ore., surrounded by his
loving family.
Joshua is survived by his mother,
Simone Parsons of Portland; his father,
John Matthew Johnson of Ridgefield,
Wash.; brothers, Shawn Johnson and
Corey Parsons; grandmother, Carol Cox;
grandfather, Robert Cox; stepfather, Mark
Parsons; niece, KaMya Purdy; nephew,
Xavier Hamilton; aunts, uncles and cous-
ins; and a large group of lifelong friends.
Joshua was a kindhearted and gener-
ous person who provided comfort and joy
to his family and many friends over the
course of his life.
Joshua worked many years at the
liquor store that his grandparents Carolyn
and Robert Cox owned in Portland. Joshua
then managed the 10th avenue liquor store
in Portland for 15 years.
Joshua was a member of J3 Group LLC
with his father John and brother Shawn.
Together this father and son team invented,
patented and developed Sert-A-Plug, a tool
for properly fitting foam earplugs.
A memorial celebration of Joshua’s
life will be held at the Beverly Cleary
School Hollyrood Campus (Grant Park
near basketball court) in Portland on
Saturday, July 8, from 2-8 p.m. All are
welcome to attend and share in the
remembrance of Joshua’s earthly journey.
His ashes will be spread at his favorite
locations in several states, many of them
rivers and beaches. Joshua loved swim-
ming, camping and other outdoor activi-
ties with his loved ones.
His remaining ashes will be buried at
the Paul Washington Cemetery in Siletz,
Ore., next to his grandmother, Geneva
(Dolly) Johnson (Williams); his aunt Lori
Johnson’s bench; and his great-grandpar-
ents, Matthew Williams and Agatha Wil-
liams (Brown) in the family plot.
Walk on, Josh. You were special and
are greatly missed and fondly remembered
by all!
