STAHS presents virtual award to Mayor Dick Anderson, STCCF board member Four years ago, the Siletz Tribal Arts and Heritage Society established an award to be given out at Lincoln City’s annual Community Days Banquet. The award is presented each year to a person who has taken measures to promote, celebrate and share the unique quali- ties, history and culture of indigenous peoples of this continent. The banquet is held annually to recognize the contributions and accom- plishments of citizens who through volunteerism have improved the quality of life for those residing in the area. Vol- unteerism is huge in Lincoln City and the banquet is a high point in the community during the early spring months. Not to be deterred by the arrival of COVID-19, many Community Days events became virtual events. Not quite as exciting as live and in person, but we still celebrated by going right ahead with the award presentation – no tuxedos, no spring dresses, no wonderful feast – but we did it anyway. Almost the same theme as the Grinch who stole Christmas, coronavirus didn’t win this round. This year’s award was presented vir- tually online to Dick Anderson, mayor of Lincoln City and member of the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contributions Fund board. You can find him at nearly every function held in Lincoln City, many of our Tribal functions and until our recent quarantine, he set aside one morning each week to host coffee with the mayor at a different restaurant each time.
