Graduates! Megan Martinot University of Portland Jamie Boe Dare2Care CNA2 Program Congratulations to Jamie for complet- ing his CNA2 program. You worked so hard and your mom is so proud of you! He received a grant from the Tribe’s 477 Self-Sufficiency Program for his courses. Jamie hopes to work at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield, Ore., or Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, Ore. Bella Christensen Siletz Valley School Bella’s plans were to attend college to become a clinical psychologist, but with the Covid19 shutdown, that is on hold for now. She started a job and likes what she does because she gets to interact with people. She has great skills dealing with people and is not fearful or intimidated by talking to anyone. She has worked very hard to finish school and I am so very proud of her. She has blossomed into a beautiful young lady. I know that whatever she wants in life, she will make it happen! Congratulations, Bella! I love you so very much. Mom Alina Mason Siletz Valley School Alina plans to get an associate degree from a community college, either Oregon Coast Community College (finished three classes during senior year) or Linn- Benton Community College, and play club sports. She plans to go into criminology to become a youth corrections counselor. Matt Morsman Portland State University Matt graduated with a BS in Indigenous Nation Native American Studies. He plans to go to graduate school in public adminis- tration and/or a Ph.D. in film. The possibil- ity of running for council for our Tribe is something that interests him as well. If not that, then some sort of governance. His college experience also included being a UISHE (United Indian Students in Higher Education) coordinator for two years, co-president of AISES (American Indian Science and Engineering Society) for four years, Healing Feathers advocate for four years, mentor for NATIONS (previously NDNSS) for two years and administrative assistant in the Indigenous Nations Studies Department for two years. He also instituted policy changes at the university surrounding student groups and renting out the Pavilion, where the PSU Miss Naimuma Pow-Wow is held each year. Cameron Rilatos Siletz Valley School Cameron plans to go into nursing in the fall, following in the footsteps of her grandma, Terry Hosford. Megan majored in environmental sci- ence with a concentration in biology and a psychology minor. She plans to apply to graduate schools in the fall for a doctorate of physical therapy. Paige Lane Oregon State University Paige Lane, daughter of Erica Patten and Nolan Lane, has graduated with a double major in public health manage- ment & policy and human development & family sciences. It wasn’t until her sophomore year that Paige chose to push herself even further by pursuing a second degree with OSU. In order to stay on track and graduate with two degrees in four years, Paige added summer classes to her already busy schedule. While maintaining above a 3.5 GPA each term, Paige was also a highly involved member of a campus sorority, where she participated in a wide variety of volunteer work and philanthropy events throughout the community. She is a first generation member of her family to obtain a college degree and after graduation she plans to attend gradu- ate school to pursue a master’s of social work to become a licensed social worker in a health care facility. Izaiah Fisher Siletz Valley School Congratulations, Izaiah! We are so proud of all you’ve accomplished and what you continue to work toward. We’ve enjoyed watching you grow and become the beautiful, wonderful person you are. Your contagious smile and appetite for life inspires us. Enjoy this next chapter in your life. Mom and Dad Shane McClintock Western Oregon University Shane graduated with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice, minoring in forensic anthropology. He hopes to use his education to help achieve his aspirations of becoming a detective. Jenna Leigh Richards George Fox University Jenna graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in biblical studies from George Fox University. She was named the outstanding student for her major cohort. After being accepted to Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt and Princeton to pursue a graduate degree, she has decided to attend Princeton Seminary and start her Master of Arts in theological studies with an emphasis in Hebrew Bible. After she fin- ishes her master’s, she plans to get a Ph.D. and eventually teach within the realm of religion and politics at the university level. This summer, she will continue to work as a teaching assistant for her now alma mater, aiding in the administration and teaching of three different online courses. June 2020 • Siletz News • 11
