Welcome to the Siletz Cultural Center: A Place for the People
The center will be a place to preserve,
promote and practice our cultural heritage
and religious beliefs as Siletz Indians.
Our true and whole story will be told to
enlighten Indians and non-Indians to the
past, present and future of the Siletz.
The center is intended to draw us
together and inspire Siletz people to
participate in cultural activities. It will
provide a home for our growing collec-
tions, where the artifacts and materials
will receive proper storage and care.
The center will reflect our journey
through time and celebrate the spirit of our
people, who have endured. It will allow us
to recognize the differences between our
27 bands and celebrate our confederation.
People of all ages will be able to learn
about our culture through visiting the gal-
lery, taking lessons, and hands-on classes
in making objects. It will be a place to
learn about not only our ancient and most

recent past, but also about contemporary
issues and skill development.
The center will accommodate the
evolving techniques of state-of-the-art
restoration and preservation for the dis-
plays, handling, storage and protection of
artifacts. Integration of current technology
also will allow multimedia presentations
within the center.

A PLACE TO EXPRESS OURSELVES
We have continued to work toward
that vision and have incorporated it into
the Siletz Tribal Arts and Heritage Society
Mission Statement, which states: The
mission of the Siletz Tribal Arts and Heri-
tage Society is to support and promote the
practice, conservation and restoration of
the Tribal cultures of the Confederated
Tribes of Siletz.
To help accomplish the task set before
us, you are invited to join in rediscovering
huu-cha (a good way of life) through either
making monetary contributions or donat-
ing sacred or historical Siletz Tribal items.
Your donations can be sent to STAHS, P.O.
Box 8, Siletz, OR 97380; or contact Gloria
Ingle, chairman, at jessiemarie1944@

Tribal members. The meetings were held
in May and June 2006. These meetings
were interactive workshops to determine
the community’s vision for the new cul-
tural center. While the discussions varied
in each community, general themes and
impressions surfaced at each meeting.
