Siletz News Letters Policy
Siletz News, a publication of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, is
published once a month. Our editorial policy encourages input from readers about
stories printed in Siletz News and other Tribal issues.
All letters must include the author’s signature, address, and phone number in
order to be considered for publication. Siletz News reserves the right to edit any
letter for clarity and length, and to refuse publication of any letter or any part of
a letter that may contain profane language, libelous statements, personal attacks
or unsubstantiated statements.
Not all letters are guaranteed publication upon submission. Published letters do
not necessarily reflect the opinions of Siletz News, Tribal employees, or Tribal Council.
Please type or write legibly. Letters longer than 450 words may be edited for
length as approved by Tribal Council Resolution #96-142.

To the editor:
I want to give a special thank you to
the Education Program, Education Com-
mittee and Tribal Council for giving me
the opportunity to attend college at Linn-
Benton Community College and Western
Oregon University.
With the generous funding of my Tribe,
I was able to obtain an Associate of Arts
Oregon Transfer Degree and a Bachelor of
Science in community health education
with a minor in biology without incurring
any student loan debt. Not only am I grate-
ful for obtaining my degrees, but starting
out my career without any student loan debt
gives me even more opportunities.

Tribe gives back through charitable fund grants to help local communities
The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contri-
bution Fund distributed $344,006.45 to 24
organizations on Aug. 5 as it continued its
quarterly donations to nonprofit groups.
The Siletz Tribe has made contribu-
tions through employment, monetary
donations and cooperative measures to
the Siletz community, Lincoln County and
the state of Oregon. The seven-member
charitable fund advisory board has dis-
tributed more than $10.3 million since its
inception in 2001.
Overall, the Tribe has honored its
tradition of sharing within the community
by distributing more than $12.8 million
through the charitable fund and other
Tribal resources.
Chinook Winds has donated more
than $2.8 million in cash and fund-raising
items since it opened in 1995. The casino
also provides in-kind donations of con-
vention space for various fund-raisers as
well as technical support, advertising and
manpower for many events.
The next deadline to submit appli-
cations is Dec. 13, 2016. Eligibility is
limited to two categories:

coln, Tillamook, Linn, Lane, Benton,
Polk, Yamhill, Marion, Multnomah,
Washington and Clackamas counties)
Native American entities and activi-
ties located anywhere in the U.S.
