Arliss Marie Chatterson – 1952-2016
Arliss Marie Chatterson was born in
Roseburg, Ore., on March 9, 1952. She
was a lifelong resident of the Logsden-
Siletz (Oregon) community and one of
the “upper-farm” icons of Logsden. She
passed away July 31, 2016.
Arliss loved Jesus, her family, her
animals and helping others. She attended
Sacred Ground Baptist Church. Her favor-
ite song was Jesus Loves Me “because that
is what we need to remember.”
Her hobbies included gardening,
collecting Elvis collectibles, art craft
(she created tin men from tin cans) and
embroidering during the winter.
Her favorite animal icon is the bear.
She enjoyed watching the Shepherd’s
Chapel on TV.
Arliss graduated from Oregon State
University with a Bachelor of Science
degree in cultural anthropology. She
worked several years in the Indian Child
Welfare Department of the Tribe.
She is preceded in death by her
mother, Marie Klamath-Spratt; brother,
Virgil Martin-Spratt; and great-nephew,
Aaron Glickert.
Arliss is survived by her three children,
Jason Simmons, Aleatha Simmons and
Weston Strickler; and her sisters, Dianne
McLeod, Katherine Curiel, Violet Bird
and Virginia Slonecker. She has several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
plus many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Arliss is
scheduled for Sept. 24, 2016, at 2 p.m. at
the Tribal Community Center in Siletz.

of the most driven people I have ever met
and I have no doubt that whatever you set
your mind to, you will accomplish. You are
such an amazing role model for all Native
and non-Native youth. I couldn’t possibly
be prouder or love you more.
You go, girl! Love you, baby.
We would just like to say congrats to
our amazing daughter on your new job as
a protégé at the casino and for graduating
with your bachelor’s this year. You have
worked so hard for this, going to school
full time (honor roll) and working full time.

Ruby E. Davis – 1964-2016
Ruby E. Davis was born Dec. 16, 1964,
in Klamath Falls, Ore., to Minnie and
Elnathan Davis, the 10 th of 10 children.
She passed quietly on Aug. 10, 2016,
under hospice care at her home in Port-
land, Ore.
Ruby grew up in K Falls and was
schooled at Sacred Heart Academy, gradu-
ating in 1983. She was an accomplished
ballerina as a youth and was also a mem-
ber of the first girls’ softball champion
team in K Falls. She was a proud member
of the Siletz Tribe.
Ruby attended OIT, studying business
and marketing. She then moved to Portland,
where she had various jobs and worked as a
checker at Fred Meyer and WinCo. She was
popular and made many friends.
Ruby enjoyed rock and heavy metal
music and saw everyone from AC/DC
to Led Zeppelin and most every band in
between. She was always excited to attend
the next concert.
Ruby was also a lifelong wrestling fan,
attending matches at the Portland Sports
Arena and the Rose Garden. Her favorite
wrestlers were Hart, Orton, Piper and
Ambrose. Ruby was a season ticket holder
for the Oakland Raiders during 2000-2003
and she rooted for the Yankees as well.
Ruby had a lot of great times in her
51 years and will be dearly missed by all
who knew her. Her favorite saying was
“No regrets,” and that’s the way she lived
her life.

We are saddened to announce the loss
of our mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and
great-grandmother Rosalie M. Bremner,
77. Rose passed away peacefully in her
home in Siletz, Ore., on Aug. 18 at 5:57
a.m. in the presence of her children and
grandchildren.
She was born the seventh of eight chil-
dren in Siletz on Aug. 27, 1938, to Maude
(Porter) and Alfred Lane. Throughout
her childhood, she resided in Siletz and
Chemawa, Ore.
She met her husband, Cecil Bremner
of Browning, Mont., at Chemawa Indian
School and married him on May 14,
1956. She became the mother of four and
returned to the workforce when the kids
were old enough to care for themselves.
She returned to live in Siletz with her
husband in 1991 and finished her work
career at the Siletz Community Health
Clinic. She loved working for the Tribe and
living in Siletz in her home on the river.
She enjoyed traveling with her family;
playing Bingo; gardening and drinking a
cold beer; watching her grandkids play
sports; bragging about how good looking
they all are; telling her adult kids what to
do; and doing crafts, including knitting,
crocheting, beading and making regalia.
She was an exceptional seamstress
and sewed all of her grandchildren’s
dresses and ribbon shirts for pow-wows,
and sewed for family and friends.
Ruby is survived by twin sister Ruth;
brothers Mark and Paul; Minnie K and
family; nieces Kim, Karen, Kristen and
Monica; nephews Lee, Chris, Kevin and
Terry; and many other loved ones.
She was preceded in death by Elna-
than Sr. and Minnie; brothers Marvin Sr.,
Elnathan Jr. and Pete; and sisters Helen
and Rita.
A visitation was held Aug. 18 at
Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes
in Portland. A funeral service was held
Aug. 19 at Gateway Little Chapel of the
Chimes, followed by a graveside service at
Paul Washington Cemetery in Siletz, Ore.

visiting her mother-in-law, sister-in-law
Alfreda and many relatives in Browning;
traveling with her sisters Donna and Dee;
and traveling and playing Bingo with her
friend Carol Blomstrom and son-in-law Jon.
Rose was preceded in death by her
parents, Maude and Alfred; her siblings
Joe, Bill and Art; her husband Cecil; and
granddaughter Cheyenne.
She is survived by her children:
daughter, Brenda and life-partner, Judy;
son, Brian; son, Shannon and wife,
Lazanne; and daughter Laura and husband
Jon; grandchildren: Rebecca, Joshua and
wife Annie, Adam, Caleb and wife Shan-
non, Marie and husband Tony, Shauna,
Joe, Zak and wife Kayla, Lane, Kiesha,
Samuel, Anita, Leeann, Hattie, Jon C,
Brian, Aiyana, Bobbi, Macey and Sitala;
great-grandchildren Alexander, Cecil,
Milley, Aniah, Franky, Lillie, Preston,
Elsie, Zaylee, Ezra and Henry; brother,
Alfred Lane of National City, Calif.; sis-
ters Gladys Bolton of Grand Ronde, Ore.,
Donna Mae Woods of Otis, Ore., and
Delores Pigsley of Keizer, Ore.; sister-
in-law Alfreda Racine of Browning; and
many many many nieces and nephews.
A rosary in her honor was held
Aug. 22 at St. Edwards Catholic Church
in Keizer. Funeral services were held on
Aug. 23 at St. Edwards Catholic Church,
with burial at the Chemawa Indian
School Cemetery.
