Why do I have to provide the Clinic and Contract Health Services
with my other Insurance information?
Our facility operates with minimal funding from the Federal Indian Health
Service (IHS), in the Department of Health and Human Services. That
funding is allocated in achieving the Federal government’s responsibility to
provide comprehensive inpatient and ambulatory care services at no
charge to Native Americans who are eligible on the basis of Indian
descent. Our funding has continually decreased over the years while our
service needs and delivery have increased.
IHS funding is the “residual payer,” or payer of last resort. When IHS
eligible Indians who also are eligible for Medicaid, Medicare or Private
Insurance are treated the Clinic seeks reimbursement for those services.
Those reimbursements provide revenue to the clinic to pay for services
that are otherwise not covered by the IHS funding.
So, it is IMPORTANT to provide your insurance information to the Clinic
and keep your information up to date to ensure the clinic can collect
those reimbursements to continue to provide basic services and to fund
enhanced services.
And remember also that when patients are referred to outside services
from a clinic provider under its contract health services (CHS) program,
IHS pays only the remainder of the bill not covered by other sources such
as Medicaid, Medicare or Private Insurance .
The Siletz Community Health Clinic has been experiencing increased no-
show or last minute cancellations for appointments. When you miss a
scheduled appointment or cancel the appointment on the day of the
appointment, you are taking needed services away from others.
Between January and June 2014 we had a total of 6519 appointments
scheduled with 619 of those as missed appointments. These 619
appointments could have been used by other patients to seek services
they sometimes have to wait several weeks to get because the schedule
is booked up.
Please be courteous and remember to show up for your
appointment or cancel your appointment at least one day in
advance. This ensures our providers time is not wasted and
patients are able to receive needed care.
Why do I need to carry Medicare Part D when my prescriptions
are FREE from the Siletz Community Health Clinic?
Medicare offers prescription drug coverage to everyone with Medicare.
The Siletz Community Health Clinic participates in the Medicare
prescription drug program. If you get prescription drugs through our
facility, you'll continue to get drugs at no cost to you, and your coverage
won’t be interrupted.
Joining a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan will help the Clinic because the
drug plan pays for the cost of your prescriptions.
To get Medicare drug coverage, you must join a plan run by an insurance
company or other private company approved by Medicare. Each plan can
vary in cost and drugs covered. Siletz Tribal members are eligible for
reimbursement.
