Geneva (“Dolly”) Johnson – 1929-2014
In loving memory
Geneva was born in Siletz, Ore., on
Nov. 19, 1929, and was the sole survivor
of Agatha and Matthew Williams. She
passed away peacefully May 9, 2014,
surrounded by loved ones at her home in
Portland, Ore., after a brief illness.
She is preceded by her husband,
Ingvald “Swede” Johnson, and her
beloved children, Lori and Kevin.
She is survived by her seven children
– daughters Constance (husband Ronnie),
Denise and Yvonne, and sons Wayne
(wife Joni), Brian, John and Alan; along
with 14 grandchildren and nine great
grandchildren.
It was always her goal to share some
of life’s greatest pleasures with her
grandchildren, such as her love of country
and western music, sci-fi flicks, murder
mysteries and how to pick a trifecta at
the dog races.
She was a proud member of the Tribe
and an active Elder. She rarely missed a
meeting, trip or get-together and could
often be heard saying, “I love my Elders.”
They loved her too and always took great
care of her.
Geneva also loved being a “high-
roller” and spending time at the casino,
where she was treated like royalty. Thank
you, Mike and crew – great job!
The rest of her leisure time was
spent attending birthday parties, gradu-
ations, baseball games and various other
family get-togethers. We are so blessed
and grateful to have all those wonderful
memories of her.
We loved her dearly and miss her
deeply.

By Siletz Elder Jeannette Giddings
It will soon be Mother’s Day again.
This time, it’ll be May 11, 2014.
It’s been so many years since I
remembered my mother, as I did when I
was a child, and I think of the “older days”
when she was all the world to me, then
of all the years that have come between.
Now I’m an old person and Mama has
been in her grave for many years.
The bouquets of flowers that we
picked for her that she put into fruit jars
or jelly glasses – she especially liked the
early spring flowers. Daffodils were one
of her favorites. We found them bloom-
ing at some old deserted home sites. She
loved the yellow blooms and said “They
looked like spring sunshine.”
Mama’s children have all grown old
now. There are only a few of us left.
Will we pick flowers for Mama
in heaven?
