Anderson named to Tribal charitable advisory board
Lincoln City Mayor Dick Anderson
has been appointed to the advisory board
of the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribu-
tion Fund. His term began in February and
runs through May 2016.
“He has been very faithful on attend-
ing all our charitable distribution events
and knows of the needs in the area,” said
Tribal Chairman Delores Pigsley.
Anderson has served as mayor since
2011. Prior to that, he served on the Lin-
coln City Council and the Lincoln City
Planning Commission. He is running for
Lincoln County commissioner, position
No. 3, in the May election.
“The relationship I have been building
with the Tribe has been beneficial for Lin-
coln City. Groups that work together on the
needs of a community make strong part-
ners who can make positive things happen
together,” said Anderson. “Being honored
by being appointed to the charitable board
is another partnership opportunity where
we can work together to help the larger
community grow. I thank the Siletz Tribe
for selecting me for the position.”
The advisory board consists of seven
members, four of whom are Siletz Tribal
members.
The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contri-
bution Fund distributes grants to chari-
table organizations or local governments
within the Siletz Tribe’s 11-county service
area and to Native American entities
located anywhere in the United States

prevention, drug and alcohol treatment,

Time to gather materials for baskets
Spring is here and very soon hazel
sticks will be ready to pick and peel.
Hazel stick gathering is a must for
anyone interested in making traditional
Siletz baskets. Spruce root can be dug all
year round and is used for the weavers or
weft of Siletz baskets.
Bear grass and maidenhair fern are
used for overlay to make our traditional
designs or marks in our baskets and both
are picked in late summer.
Any Tribal members interested in
gathering can call Bud Lane at 800-922-
1399, ext. 1320, or 541-444-8320, or
e-mail budl@ctsi.nsn.us. Just a reminder
– basket materials must be gathered in a
timely fashion.
