eradication March proves huge success as community says no to drugs

The Eradication March was held
March 20 in Siletz with more than 80
people attending. Our mission was to get
our community involved with CEDARR
(Community Efforts Demonstrating the
Ability to Rebuild and Restore) and what
CEDARR stands for.
The march also was an opportunity
for community members to express them-
selves and how they feel about illegal drug
activity, drinking and violence in our com-
munity. It allowed for voices to be heard.
We traveled through the community
on foot, by car, on motorcycle, even in
strollers for the little ones. The atmosphere
was very energized and we had a lot of
fun speaking out about matters that are
important to us. After the march, we grilled
kabobs that many of us helped prepare.
This community event could not
have happened without the support of
everyone involved.
There were reports from individuals
who said it was a very effective event. It
brought tears to an elder’s eye to see the
community speaking out and addressing
the need for healing.
One person said they have been a
local resident for more than 20 years and
the march really shook people up; they
saw a huge difference in some residents.
Several people suggested a regular event.
We would like to keep the momentum
going in the community. Please join us
for the community CEDARR Coalition
meetings that take place on the second
Thursday of every month from noon to
1 p.m. in the Shell Conference Room at
the Siletz Community Health Clinic.
It takes support and input from each
and every one of us to address community
issues, to live in the solution instead of
being part of the problem.
