Community members (above) start the Eradication March that wound
its way through Siletz on March 20. The CEDARR (Community Efforts
Demonstrating the Ability to Rebuild and Restore) coalition sponsored the
event to eradicate substance abuse and promote a drug-free community.

Bring family, friends to Indian Fair
Sharing Our Culture,
educating Our
Community
Everyone is invited to stop by the
Indian Fair on May 10, sponsored by
the Siletz Tribal Arts and Heritage Society
and Chinook Winds Casino Resort, in
cooperation with the Siletz Tribal Cultural
Department and other Tribal programs.
The theme of the fair is Sharing Our
Culture, Educating Our Community.
This admission-free event will take
place from noon to 5 p.m. at the National
Guard Armory in Newport, Ore., located
at 541 SW Coast Highway.
The purpose of the Indian Fair is
two-fold – to proudly share Siletz Tribal
culture and history with members of the
Siletz Tribe and also to educate our sur-
rounding communities. Reminiscent of
Indian Fairs that began in 1915 but dif-
ferent in that no competition or athletic
events will take place, this will be a time
of sharing.
The 2014 fair will be an attempt
to begin the revival of what was once
a hugely successful example of Siletz
Tribal talent that will continue to expand
each year with new events and categories
implemented as it grows.
Enjoy family displays of regalia and
basketry, vendors featuring Siletz Tribal
arts and crafts, information about Tribal
programs, interactive activities for chil-
dren and the ever-tempting and delicious
fry bread.
