Nesika Illahee Pow-wow
Attention Siletz Tribal Artists
The 2014 Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow Committee is once again having a logo
contest for the upcoming pow-wow in August 2014. All Siletz Tribal artists are
encouraged to submit a pow-wow-themed logo.
The winning logo artist will receive a cash prize of $250 and a professional
banner with your logo. The winning artist will have his or her logo highlighted
on the Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow flyers and merchandise.
Please submit your artwork to the Cultural Education director’s office at the
Tribal Community Center or mail it to Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, Attn:
Pow-Wow Logo Contest, P.O. Box 549, Siletz, OR 97380-0549.
Hello Tribal members:
I am asking again for your support as I run for the Siletz Tribal Council.
My name is Loraine Y. Butler. I am a Siletz Tribal member, my roll #652.
I was born in Toledo, Ore. My mother’s name is Martha Case Moody. My father
is Bruce Butler Jr.
Maternal grandparents: Ethel Logan Gardipee and Edward Case Sr. Paternal
grandparents: Bruce Butler Sr. and Jane Hollis Butler.
I have served three terms on the council. I am the TC rep for 1) Oregon Youth
Authority; 2) Culture Department; 3) LLC for Siletz and Grand Ronde; 4) Child Pro-
tective Team for ICW; and 5) I also attend and support the CEDARR group, which
is a support group for Youth Prevention and the A&D Department. We gather once a
month; our goal is to educate and prevent the use of drugs and alcohol in our community.
I care about our people and our children. I am a very spiritual person and I believe
that our Native ways are the only hope that some of our people have for health and
happiness. It’s easy to get caught up in the political realm of the TC, which can cause
Tribal members to feel their needs are not important. I will continue to listen and strive
for equality for all.

Royalty Crown Proposals
The 2014 Pow-Wow Committee is now accepting proposals for 2014-2015
royalty crowns for Miss Siletz, Junior Miss Siletz and Little Miss Siletz.

Proposals for a crown are required to include art design, size of the crown
and a bid for the crown or crowns of your interest. Proposals can be submitted
for individual crowns, two crowns or you can submit a bid for all three crowns.
We Want Them to Know We Fought for Them”
Crown proposals must be turned in to the committee no later than March 7,
2014. Proposals can be sent to Siletz Pow-Wow Committee, P.O. Box 549, Siletz,
