Additional Native American Heritage Month activities
On Nov. 7, the Portland City Council recognized Native American Heritage
Month by reading a proclamation developed by the Portland Parks & Recreation's
Native American Advisory Committee.
Created in 2010, the committee includes representatives from local agencies
and Tribes.
In additional Native American Heritage month activities, a ground blessing
ceremony took place Nov. 7 at the future location of the Tribal Gathering Garden
at Cully Park.
A Native American Family Day celebration also took place Nov. 16 at the
East Portland Community Center. It featured arts and crafts, a youth art exhibit
and family swims.

Rebecca Dobkins (below), editorial board member of The Oregon Encyclopedia and a curator at the
Hallie Ford Museum in Salem, Ore., shows examples of the art of various Native artists in her
presentation on Hidden in Plain Sight: Native American Art in Western Oregon.
