    Chairman’s Report
Measures 82 and 83
Vote no on Measures 82 and 83.
Increased promotional material,
television and radio ads are urging Orego
nians to support the non-Tribal casino
proposed for Wood Village near Portland,
Ore. Two Oregon businessmen from Lake
Oswego and a Canadian investment com
pany are financing what they call "The
Grange" (i.e., the Portland casino).
As you may recall, this came before
Oregon voters in 2010; one of the mea
sures passed and one failed. Failure to
pass the constitutional change prevented
the proponents from moving forward at
that time.
Supporters of this measure say it is
good for Oregon - it is not.
Vote no on Measures 82 and 83.
Elections
Joe Jay Pinkham
It is extremely important that every
Tribal member register to vote, not only
in Tribal elections but in the general,
national elections. You still have time to
register to vote in this year’s presidential
election. Whether you are Republican or
Democrat, it is important to express your
preference in the election.
At stake this year are many issues
that affect Indian Tribes. Congress has
been at a stalemate with regard to taking
care of business. Appropriations have
been passed for only the first six months
ofFY2013.
If sequestration is allowed, which
it sounds like may happen, all budgets
will be reduced across the board by 10
percent. This would be devastating to our
BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) and IHS
(Indian Health Service) budgets.
1 attended funeral services in Toppen
ish, Wash., for our good friend last month.
Joe Jay served on the Yakama Tribal
Council for many, many years. He worked
tirelessly for his Tribe as well as many
other Tribes nationally, including ours.
He worked to improve health care and
particularly the care of our veterans. He
was a role model for Tribal leaders.
He visited Siletz many times over the
years, supported our Restoration and was
one of our esteemed Restoration speakers
in the recent past. Our condolences go to
his family.
