Dancer named Superstar employee at Chinook Winds
Jerry Dancer, Play Palace/Arcade
attendant for Chinook Winds Casino
Resort, has been named the Superstar
employee of second quarter of 2012.
Chinook Winds directors, members
of the Siletz Tribal Council, selected staff,
Tribal Elders and staff of the Siletz Tribal
Gaming Commission attended the Super-
star ceremony in the casino’s convention
center on July 26. One-, five-, 10- and
15-year employees also were recognized
for their service to the organization.
Dancer was nominated by a co-worker
who said he sees the good in everyone.
“He is always outside on his breaks
picking up trash in the parking lot, mak
ing the Play Palace/Arcade look nice for
the guests. Jerry is also very active in the
community and lets everyone know how
great Chinook Winds is and our contribu
tions in the community as well,” wrote
the co-worker. “Jerry’s happiness is con
tagious and he will continuously put the
department's needs over his own. He is a
valuable team player who demonstrates
our goals on a daily basis and exceeds
all expectations.”
When asked what he likes about his
job, Dancer replied, “I really enjoy my
co-workers and since I’m part kid myself,
I love working with the kids. Chinook
Winds Play Palace and Games Galore is
a fun place to be.”
In recognition of his accomplishment,
Dancer was presented with a check for
$ 1,000. Additionally, a marble tile plaque,
engraved with his name, will be displayed
at the front entrance to the casino.
To be eligible to receive the Superstar
award, actions observed must be above
and beyond the employee’s regular duties
or include a description of an employee
who consistently advocates the core
values and goals of the casino through
excellence in their service to guests and
relationships with fellow employees.
Chinook Winds BEACH core values
form the foundation on which staff per
form and conduct themselves daily. The
core values, which spell out “beach,”
include Be Passionate and Determined,
Embrace Change, Accountability, Cus
tomer Service and Happiness.
Both casino staff and casino guests
can submit Superstar nominations, which
go through several reviews before a final
selection is made. With more than 800
employees and only four of these awards
given each year, it’s a real honor to be
chosen as the Superstar.
Other employees nominated for this
award include Mark Smith, Thomas
Patterson, Chris DeLong, Manny
Lopez, Virginia Blair, Susan Driver and
Erin Quwenikov.

Community invited to Celebration of Honor for veterans, active duty personnel
For the past nine years, Chinook
Winds Casino Resort has spearheaded
the annual Celebration of Honor, an event
to honor active duty personnel, military
veterans and their families. This year the
event will take place Sept. 20-23.
Chinook Winds once again will spon
sor the Field of Honor, 1,000 standard
size American flags majestically waving
in the breeze overlooking the Pacific
Ocean directly north of the casino.
The field will be open to the public
throughout the weekend. The presenta
tion of the Veterans of Oregon Honorable
Service Medal will take place at the Field
of Honor at 5 p.m. on Sept. 22.
On Sept. 22 at 9 a.m., the third annual
Run for Honor 5K will take place, with
proceeds going to charity. This event is
free for veterans and active duty military
personnel. For all others, pre-registration
is $30. Registration after Sept. 1 and on
race day is $40. Online registration is
available at chinookwindscasino.com. All
participants will receive a T-shirt.
Veterans eat free all day at the Siletz
Bay Buffet on Sept. 23. Veterans and
active duty personnel are asked to stop
by at Players Services, sign up for the
Winners Circle and show proof of military
service (DD-214 or other military ID) to
be eligible.
Also on Sept. 23, the rededication of
the Veterans Memorial will take place in
front of the casino at 2 p.m.
Individuals, families, youth groups,
businesses and organizations have many
opportunities to become involved with
the Celebration of Honor. A fundraiser
for a veterans group; a special or discount
at your business for veterans and their
families; red, white and blue decorations
at your store; flying red, white, and blue
kites; displaying the American flag at your
home or place of business; shaking the
hand of a veteran and offering a “welcome
home” thank you to active duty person
nel; or planning an event are all ways to
become part of the celebration.
Contact Teresa Simmons at 541-996-
5815 or teresas@CWCResort.com to be
included in the schedule of events and
press releases that will be published.
September is just around the comer
and by working together, we can create
a successful city-wide event as in years
past to honor those who have selflessly
guarded our freedom.
