YOUNG
Head Start winds up another year
by Lori Jay-Linstrom,
Parent Involvement Coordinator
It's time to get your new Head Start
application or if you already have one,
please fill it out and return it with the
required documentation. The Head Start
director will make the first round of selec
tions in June. Call 800-922-1399 or 541-
444-2532 and ask for Head Start.
I would like to take this opportunity
to thank all of the parents in the program.
They volunteered their time to help out
their classrooms by participating dur
ing class time. They mowed our lawn in
Salem. Some of our parents are volunteer
firefighters and they attended our Lincoln
City classroom as a community helper.
Our Head Start center families
enjoyed many different activities this
past month, including swimming, seed
planting, literacy events and field trips.
Parents also took the time to be offi
cers for the parent committees and many
joined the Policy Council. We need vol
unteers every year, not only the parents
but community members too.
During May, our program will end for
the summer. The last day of classes will be
May 17 in Portland, May 23 in Salem and
Lincoln City, and May 30 for Siletz and
Tenas. Ask classroom teachers for details.
If you would like to volunteer for our
Head Start program in your area, please do
so. Your help is needed in a variety of ways.
Call the numbers above for more informa
tion or contact the classroom directly.
