Chinook Winds staff donates to children’s programs in Lincoln County
In December, Chinook Winds
employees were invited by the Employee
Christmas Toy Drive Committee to donate
PTO (paid time off) hours toward the
Christmas Toy Drive. The toy drive was
intended to supplement the nametags on
Christmas giving trees for both the Siletz
Native Giving Tree and the Department
of Human Services Tree.
Together, these trees held more than
150 tags, each one representing a child in
need of something to make their Christ
mas bright. Many of the tags were filled
by Chinook Winds employees and guests.
Some were not, however, and also the
gifts were of varying amounts.
So the Employee Christmas Toy
Drive Committee set about making the
number of gifts that each child would
receive equal and filling the wishes or
needs on the unfilled tags. The committee
collected $3,800 to do this and at the end
of its Christmas shopping, there was an
excess of $1,500.
Honoring the intent of the money
donated by staff members to benefit chil
dren, the committee decided the money
should be given to organizations which
do just that.
Three organizations were proposed
by the committee and approved by the
Chinook Winds Executive Team.
On March 7, members of the commit
tee - Interim Food & Beverage Manager
Peter Morris, Aces Manager Monica
Logan. Keno Manager Melinda Logan
and Gift Shop Manager Dona Trickier
- were proud to present checks of $500
each to Karen Dummer of the Children's
Backpack Program. Pam Salisbury of the
Children's Advocacy Center, and DeAnn
Brown and Lori Jay-Linstrom of Siletz
Tribal Head Start.
Other Christmas Toy Drive Committee
members include Billie-Jo Wills, Andrea
Lewis, Mary Carlin, Brenda Gilman, Car
ole Clark. Regina Bonney, Heidi Cookson,
Michelle Void and Chuck McPherson.

Chinook Winds adds excitement as title sponsor of Seafood & Wine Festival

Chinook Winds Casino Resort was
the title sponsor for this year’s Seafood
and Wine Festival in Newport in February.
As a title sponsor, Chinook Winds had
a booth at the front of the huge tent in which
the festival was held. This allowed us the
opportunity to catch the eye of virtually
every visitor to the festival - an estimated
18,000 people this year who ventured into
the wind and rain to be part of the festivities.
The place was packed. Visitors come
from all over the United States specifi
cally to visit the Seafood and Wine Fes
tival annually and we were able to spread
the word about what Chinook Winds has
to offer. Not surprisingly, many people
we met came to Chinook Winds on the
same weekend.
The festival was expanded to four
days this year, with the first night host
ing the sponsors and a limited number of
guests (750). Executive Chef Jack Strong
and Interim Food & Beverage Manager
Peter Morris served crab cocktails at the
sponsor’s reception while Heather Hatton
and I manned the booth with smoked
salmon on the same evening.
Throughout the festival at the booth, a
video loop displayed all of our upcoming
events, we played high card and blackjack
for prizes and handed out information on
promotions along with ink pens, playing
cards and beads.
We received many positive com
ments both during and after the event
about how much fun and excitement the
booth added to the atmosphere. People
also raved about the smoked salmon and
crab cocktails.
Hatton organized Chinook Winds’
participation in the festival and the fol
lowing people helped make it a success:
Strong, Morris, Dale Robertson, Lee
Johnson, Stephanie Hurliman, Bruno
Rudolph, Bob Sulkosky, Kelli Duhamel,
Scott Macrae and Linda Walling.
