Because of the positive experience I
had in running for council, I look forward
to gaining experience and running for
election again.
Please continue to visit with me when
you see me at various functions.
Korner went on to say that his nine-
member crew is hard-working and doesn’t
back down from anything. He’s looking

golf course superintendent at the Bend
Golf & Country Club for five years and
prior to that at Black Butte Ranch for
five years.

1 would like to thank you for your vote
during the last council election. I enjoyed
the time chatting with each of you as well
as reconnecting with old friends and mak

When asked why he chose to apply
at Chinook Winds, he replied, “I felt that
the Chinook Winds course would present
a challenge that I could take on and that
it would be a fun endeavor. I wanted to
be part of the improvement and renova

great company to work for.”

Re: Native American religious exercise at TRCI
My name is Gene Gagnon, my father was Ojibewa Chipewa, Wolf Clan:
mother is Lakota Oglala, American Horse Clan. I am an inmate at Two Rivers
Correctional Institution.
I and 73 other Native American inmates are facing religious discrimination by
Religious Services Chaplain Hodney. Chaplain Cordona and the Department of Cor
rections. We are being denied Drum Circle. Talking Circle and participation in our
ceremony year round. These ceremonies were to be implemented statewide by
DOC as part of Native American religious services two years ago.
Many institutions have complied, but Chaplain Hodney and Chaplain Cordona have
refused. Religious Director Gary Simms and Eastside Coordinator Tim Cayton have
stated to me in letters they will bring closure to this problem of religious discrimination.
My grandparents and my parents grew up in boarding schools where they were tor
tured for 18 years of their lives. As a result, I cannot speak my Native language fluently
1 am asking the people who read this to imagine the stigmata of religious oppres
sion myself and 73 other Natives feel.
We do not want anything new, just what has been approved statewide. Please call
the Legislative Commission of Indian Affairs members, your council members Garv
Simms and Tim Cayton.

Thank you,
Gene Gagnon
