    From Auntie Debi
I just wanted to share this with
our Tribe. My niece, Theresa Geiszler,
made these dreamcatchers for her
daughter Airka’s school friends. Then
they took them to school so the kids
could finish decorating them, making
them into either bracelets or necklaces.
The kids had a great time and they all
turned out beautifully.
1 am very proud of you. EC. for
taking the time to do this for your
daughter Airka’s class!

New year, new calendar, new employees highlight STEP’S move into 2012
Another year is here and with it the
time to make a resolution about reducing
your environmental footprint.
What will you change? It’s easier to
make one change at a time, so here are
some suggestions:
•
•
Use rechargeable batteries.
Recycle regular and rechargeable
batteries.
•
•
Change your lights to CFLs (compact
fluorescent lights).
Use cloth napkins instead of paper.
STEP Calendar
The Siletz Tribal Energy Program
(STEP) has produced a calendar for 2012.
The calendar features artwork drawn by
Tribal and community youth. The artwork
each month illustrates a topic related to
the environment. Tips to save energy are
provided on the calendar as well.
The free calendars are available from
STEP by calling our toll-free number 800-
922-1399, ext. 1271, or our local number

mailed to you.
New staff
We are pleased to welcome two new
employees to our STEP staff.
Buddy Lane is our new data coordina
tor. He will help us keep track of all the
changes we have made here in the admin
istration of the Siletz Tribe and in the
homes of Tribal members. This includes
changes in the types of light bulbs we
use, types of appliances we use, change
in driving habits, changes in amount we
recycle and compost, and many other
changes we have been making over the
past two years.
This data will be valuable in inform
ing you about what we have completed
and will be used in future grant applica
tions as we explore more ways to save
power and money.
Frank Aspria is our new planning
technician and will work for STEP
approximately half time. He will assist
with home energy assessments, change
out light bulbs and perform other mea
sures on Tribal member homes to make
them more energy efficient. Welcome,
Frank and Buddy!
If you have any questions, please
