Firewood available on land near Siletz
A new firewood-cutting area is now
open for Siletz Tribal members.
Known as the Rock Creek #2 unit,
this area is located approximately 11
miles from Siletz. This area will only be
open for the summer, so get your firewood
for next season now.
Permits are required and can be
obtained at the Tribal Natural Resources
office in the administration building in
Siletz from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on week
days. Maps and directions also are avail
able at the same location.
Permits will be issued to Siletz Tribal
members only who will need to show their
Tribal ID card and provide the license
number of the vehicle they will use to haul
the wood. Woodcutters from out of the
Siletz area can call the numbers at right
to have a permit mailed to them.
The permits are for Tribal member
woodcutting for personal use only. This
firewood may not be sold. The person
named on the permit must be present
when the firewood is cut and hauled.
Tribal members who wish to cut
wood for Tribal Elders must present a
signed note from the Elder stating that the
individual is authorized to cut firewood
on their behalf. The note must include the
Elder’s Tribal ID number.
Permits are good for two weeks and
allow up to two cords of wood to be cut
on each permit. Each Tribal member is
allowed up to five cords total per year
from Tribal firewood units.
For more information, stop by the
Natural Resources Office or call Tribal
Forester Mike Kennedy at 800-922-1399,
ext. 1232, or 541-444-8232.

The Siletz Tribal Housing Depart
ment’s Emergency Housing Assistance
(EHA) program will begin accepting
applications July 1. No applications will
be accepted early.
Applications are available through
the Siletz Tribal Housing Department, the
Tribal website and all area offices.
This program operates on a first-
come, first-served basis. Only completed
applications will be processed and served.
If your application is not complete, funds
will not be held for you. Once the funds
are depleted, the program will close and
will not re-open until the next funding
cycle in January 2012.
Service district is all of the U.S.

EHA can be used to enable a Tribal
member/Tribal family to get into a
permanent home if there is a situation
of homelessness. Homeless is having
no personal residence or if the person/
family is temporarily staying with
someone else.
EHA should not be used as a tool to
move from one residence to another
without good cause.
EHA is available every two years. If
you applied July 18,2009, you cannot
•
•
apply until July 18,2011. Your appli
cation will not be set aside; it will not
be accepted if you apply early.
If you apply for EHA on July 1 and
you are one of the first few applicants,
this does not entitle you to funds set
aside on your behalf. Your applica
tion must be complete and you must
comply with all stipulations of the
program (i.e., income verification,
proof of Tribal enrollment, Social
Security card copies and proof of
household composition) before funds
will be payable.
If you are homeless and are approved
for assistance, you will have 14 days
in which to find a place to live, obtain
a rental agreement and get informa
tion to STHD to process payment.
If you are facing eviction, you must
have a signed 72-hour eviction noticè
from a landlord or rental property. •
If you are facing foreclosure, you must
have proper documentation from -a
mortgage lender in order to process.
Assistance cannot be provided to
those already participating in Low
Rent, Mutual Help and Rental Assis
tance programs.
If you have any questions, call me at
541 -444-8311 or 800-922-1399, ext. 1311.
