Sign Up for Diabetes Retreat
The 2009 Siletz Diabetes Retreat is scheduled for Oct. 22 at Eola Vitaculture
Center in West Salem from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Transportation will be provided from Siletz.
Tribal members who have diabetes are invited to attend and to bring a support
person.

Pap-a-thon Scheduled for Nov. 6
It s time tor the Pap-a-thon again, this time on Nov. 6. The clinic staff make this
a day of fun for the women who need their pap and breast exams.
We will have food, gifts and activities to make the appointment more enjoyable.

The annual Siletz Tribal Youth Conference will be held this year on Nov. 7-8 at
the B'Nai B'Rith Summer Camp near Devils Lake in Lincoln City.
Registration is for enrolled Siletz Tribal Youth in grades 7-12 regardless of resi
dence. Registration is limited to 50 youth.
There will be a date at which descendants' registration will be accepted if space
is available. Registration is reserved in the order received.
The Siletz Tribal Youth Conference is an annual opportunity for Tribal youth to
come together to make new relationships and maintain established relationships. It of
fers large group sessions and breakout sessions on a variety of topics, including Tribal
culture/history, personal development, physical/mental/emotional self-care, managing
finances, storytelling and other cultural practices.
Sessions are designed to be active and fun. In addition to more formal sessions,
time is set aside for large and small group activities.
Youth are expected to treat themselves, each other and staff with respect. Conflicts
or issues that arise will be addressed by staff in collaboration with the youth.
Youth will have a designated adult mentor available to them for support, to address any
concerns that might arise and who will be aware of their location and activity schedule.
The conference is an alcohol- and drug-free event. A staff registered nurse will
administer prescribed medications.
Conference registration forms will be mailed using addresses available through
the Tribal Enrollment Department. Registrations also will be available at each of the
I ribal offices in Portland, Salem, Eugene and Siletz.

Tribe Donates to Fire Department
The Siletz Tribe continued its tradi
tion of giving to the community as Tribal
Council member Loraine Butler presented
a $15,000 check to Dave Edwards, fire
chief of the Siletz Valley Fire Department,
on Aug. 31.
Ron Hervey, fire district board chair-
man, and Sheryl Simmons, fire district
board secretary, also attended the pre
sentation. The money will go to the fire
department’s general fund.
This donation follows a $10,000
donation in April, also to the fire depart
ment's general fund.
