Thank You
The family of Frank Simmons sends
a heartfelt thank you to everyone who
sent kind remembrances, dropped by with
food, attended the services, helped with
the dinner, sent love and prayers and stood
with us during our time of grief.
A few weeks before Frank left us, he
shared the following words with us and
we believe it was his intention that they
also be shared with you:
“Stop for awhile and dream. Look at
that old tree over there, the one all grey
and bare, with holes in it from the top to
the bottom. The arms are still there cast
ing a shadow on the stream nearby. That
old tree is a keeper of the circle. It has
housed the birds and beasts and watched
the salmon come up to spawn in pair. It
has watched the wisdom of the bear, the
love of a bird feeding the young, the cun
ning of a wildcat, the beauty of a newborn
fawn. The cold of the winter, the heat of
the sun, keep on watching until the day
is done. That old tree doesn't assume
that all in his circle is taken care of. That
old tree talks to them and makes sure
that they are because they have purpose.
Like us, we have a purpose too. Some of
us have different values, but our cause is
the same. Some do not understand the
values of others, but do we ask why ? No,
we don't. Instead we assume that what
is good for the bear is good also for the
birds or what is good for the loving little
fawn is good for the snake. Look at that
boulder over there. It will tell you a few
tales of wisdom, too. It has been around
since the time of beginning. It used to be
a big solid rock, but from being rolled
around and broken apart it isn’t as strong
as it used to be. If we are going to be keep
ers of the circle, we need to understand
that all things have a purpose culturally,
traditionally and spiritually.”
