Introducing New Internal
Audit Department
Hunting and Fishing Reporting
Incentives Winners
The Natural Resources Committee
decided this past hunting and fishing
season to implement an incentive pro
gram for reporting hunting and fish
ing tag successes.
It’s the tag holder’s responsibility
to report to the Natural Resources De
partment when the tag has been filled.
Everyone who reported filling their tag
was entered into a drawing for prizes.
Incentives for the 2007-2008 sea
sons were gift cards to Sportsman’s Ware
house in Salem, one $50 gift card for
salmon tag reporting and three gift cards
for hunting tag reporting ($ 1 (X), $75, $50).
The drawings were held at the
Natural Resources Committee’s De
cember (salmon) and April (deer and elk)
meetings. All winners were notified
shortly thereafter. Congratulations to the
following 2007-2008 season winners:
Salmon: Ken Blair ($50 gift card)
Hunting: William Wentworth
($100 gift card)
Nathan Metcalf ($75 gift card)
Charlie Butler ($50 gift card)

has decided to continue the reporting
incentive program again in the 2008-
2009 seasons with the same prize
amounts. It pays to report your hunt
ing and fishing success!

On Jan. 18, 2008, Tribal Council
unanimously approved creation of a
new Internal Audit Department. This
was accomplished by using existing
Tribal audit resources and adding a di
rector position.
This department reports directly to
Tribal Council and our responsibilities
are defined in the Internal Audit Char
ter that also was unanimously approved
by Tribal Council. Our department’s
goal is to supply Tribal Council and
management with detailed information
for use in both Tribal Council's over
Cut Wood for the Elders Day
The Tribal Natural Resources Com
mittee and Natural Resources Depart
ment will sponsor another “Cut Wood
for the Elders Day” on June 28 at the old
log yanJ at the Tribe’s Toledo Mill property.
We need lots of volunteers to help
cut and split firewood for Tribal elders.
Bring your chainsaws, hydraulic wood
splitters, splitting mauls, axes and lots
of energy.
Lunch, drinks and snacks will be pro
vided. We will meet at the Tribal admin
istration building at 7 a.m. and caravan
to the mill. For anyone wishing to come
later, directions to the mill will be posted
on the front door of the building.
The goal of this event is to stock
pile firewood for future delivery to el

Wow Campers
Campers for this year's Nesika
Illahee Pow-Wow are taken on a first-
come, first-served basis. The dates of
our pow-wow are Aug. 8-10.
There will be a $15 garbage charge
per campsite, with one vehicle per
campsite. If you have additional ve
hicles or are unable to park your ve
hicle at your campsite, you will need
to park at one of our parking lots off
of the pow-wow grounds.
Please keep pets off of the pow
wow grounds and on a leash at all times.
Camper registration forms and fees will
be collected on-site.

Internal auditing is an independent
and objective assurance and consult
ing activity for reviewing all Tribal
business and entities. The department’s
work encompasses the examination
and evaluation of the adequacy and
effectiveness of a Tribal organization's
governance, risk management process,
internal control structure and quality of
performance in carrying out the Tribe's
stated goals and objectives.
All Tribal activities are subject to
compliance and operational audits. The
Internal Audit Department also will
perform all required gaming audits.
The standards for the gaming audits are
to maintain the highest level of com
pliance based on Tribal Internal Con
trol Standards that have been devel
oped from industry standards, the
Tribal/state compact and the Minimum
Internal Control Standards oi the Na
tional Indian Gaming Commission.
The audit function is to verify that
the rules, regulations, policies and pro-
cedures adopted by the Tribal entity, and
approved by the Tribal Council, arc being
followed and are sufficient to protect
Tribal assets. Our objective is to pro
vide reasonable assurance that Tribal
activities are conducted in accordance
with defined policies and procedures.
The Internal Audit Department also
is subject to an external review by au
ditors to assure Tribal Council and the
Tribe that we are meeting professional
standards in our work as defined by

tors for the Siletz Tribal Gaming Com
mission. Joe Lane has been the ( on-
federated Tribes of Siletz Indians' in
ternal auditor for gaming-related activi
ties for eight years.
Even with such a small department,
we have more than 50 years of audit
and compliance experience that spans
private industry and state, federal and
Tribal government.
The Internal Audit Department is
located in Lincoln City in the same
building as the Siletz Tribal Gaming
Commission and the Siletz Tribal Busi
ness Corporation, in the basement in
Suite E.
