Veterans
Information
by Margo Hudson
We are saddened with the passing of
one of our own Siletz Tribal Honor Guard
members, veteran Ernestine “Tina”
Wooten. She was very active on our
Honor Guard and will be greatly missed.
Medal Ceremony
Many of you might have seen the
article in the previous issue of Siletz
News regarding the Veterans of Oregon
Honorable Service Medal presentation
ceremony. Our Honor Guard and any
veterans can participate in the rededi
cation ceremonies at Chinook Winds
Casino Resort on Sept. 30, 2007. Many
events are scheduled for that day.
As part of the rededication of the
Veterans Memorial, a presentation of
medals will be made to Oregon veter
ans. A new custom-designed, engraved
medal in appreciation for the service
and sacrifice of veterans from the state
of Oregon will be presented to Oregon
veterans in attendance.
To qualify for the medal, a form
must be filled out in advance of the cer
emony, with proof of military service
attached. Forms will be on hand at Chi
nook Winds beginning Sept. 28 in a tent
near the flag display. To access them in
advance, go to www.veteransoforegon.com.
Don’t forget - veterans will be hon
ored at the state fair this year. Veteran’s
Appreciation Days are set for the first
weekend of the state fair, Aug. 24-26.
