New Manager
and Hours at
Siletz Public
Library
My name is Laura Hamilton and
I'm delighted to serve the greater Siletz
community as the new library manager.
I feel very privileged to be working in
this beautiful new library and getting
to know the residents.
Your years of hard work in plan
ning, designing, fund-raising and just
plain hard work have created a won
derful space for books, computers and
those who need and love them.
Whether you dash in to grab some
essential piece of information or have
the leisure to more fully make use of
the objects stored here, I'm happy to
help connect you with what you seek.
Let me know if a book or other item
doesn’t seem to be available as we have
resources to bring whatever it is here
in (usually) a reasonable timeframe.
Linked with libraries to the north,
south, east, and west, we have access
to thousands of titles and the van
brings new treasures back and forth
three times a week.
My own background starts with a
profound love of libraries. I first stated
my desire to be a librarian as a child,
when my jaw dropped after a librarian
asked if 1 wanted a job there when I
grew up. I had no idea one could be
paid to spend time in libraries.
I read voraciously and worked in
the library at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo,
Calif., where I got a degree in English.
Next, I started a graduate course of
study toward a library degree at San
Jose State, but quit to get married and
have a family.
I worked in a small branch library
in Santa Clara, Calif., for three years
before my twin sons were born. Rais
ing them got me interested in education
and I’ve been working in homeschooling
programs and alternative education (13
years) and as a writing teacher at the
community college level (eight years)
before moving to Newport last year.
I now continue to teach in an online
format for Rogue Community College
and enjoy that very much.
I love this region and feel lucky to
live and work here. My Yorkshire ter
rier, Lili, used to pout and lie facing
the back window all the way home
when we came for vacations. Now she
is relentless in coaxing a stop at the
beach out of me every day - twice a
day on my days off! Both of us are very
glad to call this area home.

brary, I will be happy to show you
around and get a card set up for you.

Please note that library hours recently
changed to: Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-
6 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Fri
days, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturdays,
10 a.m.-6 p.m.
