best thing to do is get in there and do it
yourself. I want to be here to make sure
what our tribe invests in is successful.”
When asked what departments in
terested her most, she replied, ”My top
three would have to be Marketing be
cause of the creativity and being a part
of bringing customers to our resort,
security because you are involved on
so many different levels of the facility,
and finally games because the atmo
sphere is great and you get to work
directly with the customers."
Natane was born in Coos Bay. Ore.,
to Steven and Mari Woosley. She at
tended Marshfield High School and
received her GED in 2004.
After that, she began taking busi
ness classes online through South Uni
versity and is continuing to look at
higher education.
Chad McCormick started the pro
gram in the Human Resources Depart
ment on May 1, 2006. He currently is
working in the Player Services, Keno,
and Bingo departments.
When asked why he entered the
program, he said, “It gave me the op
portunity to provide a better life for my
family. I also want to be a part of the
management staff at Chinook Winds to
help better serve our tribe.”
Chad's favorite department to date:
“I would have to say the Games De
Natane Woosley. Chad McCormick,
and Candi LaBonte are all part of the
Mentor/Protégé Program at Chinook
Winds. The purpose of the program is
to offer Siletz Tribal members an op
portunity for management training at
the casino, hotel, and golf course.
The intent is to provide the resort
with qualified Siletz Tribal members
with proper management trainii\ and
techniques to succeed in the gaming
industry at management levels.
Natane Woosley joined the Mentor/
Protégé Program >1 April 2006. She be
gan her employi^it with Chinook Winds
as a multi-games dealer in July 2002.
When the opportunity came, Natane
applied and was successfully selected
as one of our top candidates for the
program. Like all protégés, she started
in the Human Resources Department
at Chinook Winds.
Natane currently is working in the
Food and Beverage Department. She
has been through the HR, Security,
Hotel/CC Arcade, Golf and Fitness,
Marketing, Slots, Games, and IT
departments.
When asked what her goal was
when she started the program, she said,
“I wanted to find something to expand
and better myself and help out the tribe
at the same time. I believe that if you care
how something is managed, then the

Jim and Robin McCormick. He lived in
Independence. Ore., until the fourth grade
when his family moved to Corvallis.

Candi Labonte entered the Mentor/
Protege Program in June 2006. She be
gan her employment with Chinook Winds
as a buffet runner in November 1999.
In 2001, Candi was promoted into
the steward supervisor position. When
the opportunity came, she applied and
was successfully selected as one of our
top candidates for the Mentor/Protege
Program.
She currently is in the Games De
partment at Chinook Winds. "I love
watching people win!” Candi said.
When asked what her goal was
when she started the program, she said,
“I came from F&B and I originally
wanted to be a manager in that depart
ment. Now I see that there is so much
more to the resort that I want to get in
volved in. I feel like Chinook Winds
has given me so much. I have come
from not being able to pay my rent to
buying a home.”
Candi has Food and Beverage,
Player Services. Keno. Bingo, and Fi
nance left to protégé.
Candi was born in Roseburg. Ore.,
to Crystal Curl and Earl LaBonte. She
attended Taft High School in Lincoln
City, Ore., and received her GED in
1996. She began cosmetology school
soon after and is continuing to look at
higher education.
The Mentor/Protégé program began
in May 2002. Chinook Winds has had
two successful protégés promoted into
supervisory positions and one pro
moted into management. Currently,
three protégés are in their second year
of the program.
