    LEITERS TO THE EDITOR
To the editor:
I want to thank the council mem
bers for revising the stipend to include
all elders. The decision came as a total
surprise, but exceedingly welcome.
I know the allowance will help us
meet our basic needs and bring down
the expense of those needs.
Sincerely,
Rose Kentta
To the editor:
Tribal members,
I want to thank all of you who sup
ported me in the recent election. Your
confidence in me means a lot to me and
I will do my very best to represent all
of our people.
Congratulations to Dee Pigsley and
Lillie Butler on their election. I also
want to thank all of the rest of the can
didates who ran and brought many dif
ferent ideas and issues into the elec
tion process.
It is a real honor to participate in
tribal government and I will continue
to do whatever I can to make our tribal
government better for all of us.
Shu’ ‘aa-shi-nin-la.
(Thank you)
Alfred “Bud" Lane III
To the editor:
To all fellow tribal members.
First off. I want to publicly con
gratulate Dee, Bud. and Lillie. They ran
positive campaigns with the overall
goal of making the tribe better.
I want to thank everyone who sup
ported and voted for me. I met a lot of
tribal members and learned a great deal.
I also want to thank everyone who voted
against me. You were actively involved
in the process of choosing our tribe's
leaders; I respect that.
For those who supported me, I II
be back and better for 2008. For those
who didn't vote for me this time, I'll
be doing the best I can to convince you
to vote for me in 2008.
Sar Richards
To the editor:
We wanted Sar to know just how
proud we are of him. We know it can
feel like you're taking a risk when you
run for Tribal Council and we know he
feels like it's a risk worth taking.
It is less than a year until the next
election and we are starting now with
his campaign. Vote Sar in ’08
He works for his tribe, employed
by the casino.

To the editor:
I've read two articles in the New
port paper, one from Lisa Brown and
one from Monte Kentta. I haven’t fig
ured out why they put them in an out
side newspaper. Enough people are
against our casinos - what do they ex
pect the public to do?
I’m amazed how greedy some
people are. We only get a little over
$ 1.000?
To me and my brother, who live
outside the service area but I get my
mail before he does, so I call to tell him
the good news (we got some money).
His reaction is the same as mine, all right.
We're not used to getting money
we haven't worked for. Also, we have
to pay our water, sewer, electricity, etc.
and don't expect anyone else to.
Yes, it's bad when you lose your
power. We did for a night and day, but
they fixed it as soon as they could. In
the meantime, we were wrapped in
blankets. But I read that in another state,
people were without electricity for one
and two weeks. I think we were lucky.
As for the golf course, I think this
was a good idea and down the road will
really bring in the money! They've put
one in north of Bandon and now' they've
put in golf resort housing. They’re go
ing to put a public one south of Bandon
and already housing is going sky high.
So many casinos are going in that you
won't make it from them alone. That's why

To the editor:
I just read the letter from Selene
Rilatos. Once again, 1 am astonished
at the mindset of Indian people.
Who in the heck told you that our
basic needs are to come from the tribe?
My parents raised me to stay in school,
get a job at 16, and work for what I
need and want! What kind of example
is it for our kids to let them think they
can rely on the tribe for their basic needs?
Our tribe provides our health care
(which is worth a lot), money for edu
cation. and also jobs are available.
When people fall on hard times, there
is assistance from the tribe. Instead of
people always looking for something
for free, they should be taught to work.
You mentioned the federal govern
ment cutting budgets ... they are not
responsible for taking care of us - we
are (or should be) responsible for that!
The majority of people work well into
their 70s to take care of themselves.
I have gotten assistance from the tribe
a few times and have been so grateful
for it. I have never relied on it, though.
Nor have I "expected" it. I think our
time would be more we 11-spent being
thankful for all we have as a tribe, in
stead of looking for more handouts.

I'm grateful to Delores Pigsley and oth
ers who are looking ahead.
Lisa, I know one solution for you!
If you think Grand Ronde is doing a
better job, you're free to change your
name to their tribe.
As for Monte talking about block
voting and only voting for three, and one
for each one. You can only vote once
for a president also. Each person has the
right to vote for whomever he chooses.
I'm grateful for any information. I
read the Voter’s Pamphlet - that helps
also. But whoever goes on for pages
complaining, I cross them off for sure
and those talking about not finishing (or
going) to high school, what kind of
message are we sending to our children?
Monte, you talk about logging.
My grandfather, father, husband, his
brother, and my sons were all loggers but
where are all the mills now? Overseas,
like many other jobs. So be grateful our
tribe is investing in different areas.
As for having outsiders running our
casino, if we can find someone who
knows what they're doing and is expe
rienced. it's an asset. If I were going to
put my life in a doctor's care, I would
hope he had experience and knew
what he was doing!
I hope you look around and see
you have it pretty good.
Sincerely.
Wanda Melton
we take in our home, for the donation

the electrical and plumbing.
We will welcome the tribal elders
to the dedication of our home when it
happens.
Kristina Ewing and daughter. Alisa
Johnson, want to see what is going on
(see photo on page 13). They have
come up to watch Dad. Papa C, and
Uncle do the job to make this a won
derful Habitat home.
With appreciation.
