To the editor:
As the year draws to a close, I
would like to take this opportunity to
thank the many people who have
helped me throughout the year with the
development of the Siletz Small Busi
ness Program and the Siletz Tribal Ac
tion Network (S.T.A.N.).
Without their help, I wouldn't have
been able to assist so many Siletz Tribal
members, their families, and Chinook
Winds Casino Resort employees.
This year, the Small Business pro
gram has helped several Siletz Tribal
members open new businesses and pre
pare themselves for business ownership.
We have had 201 participants in
the S.T.A.N. workshop program dur
ing the past year!
I hope 2007 will bring more op
portunity for these programs to con
tinue to grow.
I would like to thank the Siletz. Tribal
Council and the Siletz. Tribal Business
Corporation board for their vision and
ongoing support of these programs.

To the editor:
I have decided not to run for Tribal Council this year for personal reasons. I
declared prematurely and decided that due to finances, I would wait a year in order
for me to pay off some bills and be better prepared financially to run for council.
I appreciate all the comments of support for running - I will count on your
votes next year.
1 wish all candidates good luck in the upcoming tribal elections.

Dear Chinook Winds Employees:
A very momentous occasion slipped past us this past August - the final
payment on the debt service for Chinook Winds Casino. I couldn't let it pass
without sending a thank you to the staff there at Chinook Winds.
Without all of your hard work over many long hours, Chinook Winds would
not be the success it has become. Each and every one of you has contributed to
that success in your own way and the tribe reached its goal of paying off that
debt. We couldn't have done it without all of your hard work and dedication.
I know you don't hear it often enough, but I want each of you to know how
much I appreciate your contributions.

To the editor:
It was requested from a tribal mem
ber that the TC write a report to the
newsletter when they travel on what the
training was for and what benefit it had
to tribal members.
I am the Tribal Council represen
tative for our ICW Department and be
cause I was asked by the Warm Springs
Tribe to go and speak on behalf of our
children and families on Oct. 3, 2006.
I attended a conference entitled West/
Southwest Methamphetamine Legisla
tive and Policy Planning Conference.
It was held at the Salt Palace Con
vention Center in Sall Lake City, Utah.
Because of the large number of
children who are being removed from
homes of parents who are addicted to
methamphetamine and other drugs,
and the amount of time that the chil
dren are in foster care, Congress passed
the Adoption and Safe Families Act.
One of the requirements from this
act is that parents have one year to IS
months to complete a long list of re
quirements to get their children back.
If they are not in compliance in that
short time frame, the children are
adopted out or put into permanent care.
I feel that with the extent of time it
takes for recovery from meth and other
addictions that this time line is too short.
I went to this conference to request
that the government look at these time
frames and increase them. It was noted
and will be taken back to the president
and discussed.
It is my hope that because of the
people who have recovered from meth
and the studies that show there is hope
for these families, the government will
increase the time lines.
