We have been getting a lot of calls
lately, asking what is needed to be
come certified to receive USDA com
modity foods.
The first thing that we need is a
completed application. Along with the
application, we will need a tribal ID
(we serve all federally recognized
tribes); Social Security cards for all
household members (if you don't have
a card, but know your number, that will
work); picture ID for adult household
members; all income verification, in
cluding unemployment benefits, child
support received. SSA. SSI. SSD. tribal
elder benefit. TANF, public or tribal
assistance, foster care payments, veter
ans benefits, receipt for any money re
ceived from cash-paid jobs, and a re
ceipt for money from family or friends.
If there is a household member who
is 18 or older who does not have any
income, they will complete a Zero In
come form. College students receiving
grants or scholarships need to provide
that verification.
If you are paying for child care, we
can deduct that from your income. If
you are paying child support, we also
can deduct that.
Remember that you cannot receive
USDA commodities and food stamps
at the same time.
We try to make the application pro
cess as easy as possible. If you need
help filling out the application, come
in or call and we will be glad to help.
If you would just like to see if you
might be eligible but you don't know
the income guideline, call and tell us
your income and we can see if you
might be eligible and we will mail you
an application.
