and Tina Retasket (alternate) to this year’s Election Board.

I understand I must be an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz
Indians and 18 years of age or older. This application must be filed with the Election
Board by 4 p.m. on Dec. 21,2005. 1 also understand that if for any reason I decide to
withdraw my application for Siletz Tribal Council, 1 must withdraw in writing by
Dec. 26, 2005. Otherwise, my name will appear in the voter’s pamphlet and on
the ballot.
Cut Wood for the Elders Day
The Tribal Natural Resources Com
mittee and Natural Resources Department
will sponsor a “Cut Wood for the Elders Day”
on Dec. 10. This will be held at the old
log yard at the tribe's Toledo Mill property.
We need lots of volunteers to help cut
and split firewood for tribal elders. Bring
your chainsaws, hydraulic wood splitters,
splitting mauls, axes, and lots of energy.
Even if you don't have any of those, we
can use the moral support! Lunch, drinks,
and snacks will be provided.
We will meet at the tribal adminis
tration building at 8 a.m. and caravan to
the mill. For anyone wishing to come
later, directions to the mill will be posted
on the front door of the building.
The goal of this event is to stockpile
firewood for future delivery to elders.
There is a long list of elders who burn
wood for their winter heat.
People willing to haul firewood to
elders outside of the Siletz area should
contact Elders Coordinator Angela
Ramirez at 1-800-922-1399, ext. 1225, or
541-444-8225 and she will pair you up
with an elder in need. We especially need
folks who can haul wood to the Eugene,
Salem, and Portland areas.
Previous woodcuts have seen more
elders showing up to work than young
folks! This is a challenge to all you
“youngsters” (in body and/or spirit)
out there to come out and show your
respect for the elders by providing
them with the means to keep warm
during the cold winter months.
New Firewood Area Open
A new firewood area, the Dry Creek
unit located about 36 miles by highway
from Siletz (10 miles from Eddyville), is
open for tribal member firewood cutting.
The available wood is a mixture of
fir, alder, and maple located in decks at
two landings in a recently logged unit.
The Sam Creek #2 and Sam Creek #3 fire
wood units also are still open, with lots
of firewood available.
Permits are required for all of these
units and may be obtained at the Tribal
Natural Resources office in the adminis
tration building in Siletz from 8 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Maps and direc
tions also are available at this location.
Permits will be issued to tribal mem
bers only, who will need to show their
tribal ID card and provide the license
number of the vehicle they will use to haul
the wood. Out-of-the-Siletz-area wood
cutters can call the numbers below to have
a permit mailed to them.
The permits are for tribal member
woodcutting for personal use only. This
firewood cannot be sold. The person
named on the permit must be present
when cutting and hauling the firewood.
Tribal members wishing to cut wood
for tribal elders must present a sighed nòte
from the elder stating that the individual
is authorized to cut firewood on their be
half. The note must include the elder’s
tribal ID number.
Permits are good for two weeks and
allow up to two cords of wood to be cut
on each permit. Each tribal member is
allowed up to five cords total per year
from tribal firewood units.
The Dry Creek unit will be burned in
either the spring or early fall to prepare
for planting, so get your firewood now.

Voter’s Pamphlet & Statement
If you would like your candidate’s statement and photo to appear in the voter's
pamphlet, please submit your statement and a recent 3x5 photograph of yourself along
with your application. Deadline for statements and photos is Dec. 21,2005, at 4 p.m.
Statements and photos will appear only in the voter’s pamphlet. Mail your statement

For those tribal members who re
ceived a computer in 2002, the warranty
has expired. You still can receive techni
cal support from Gateway by calling its
toll-free number listed below. Any repairs,
however, now will be at your expense.
The online computer training sub
scriptions through MySkilSource expired
in September. You no longer will be able
to access the training site. No additional
funds were allocated for renewal of this
program. If it becomes available again,
we will put a notice in Siletz News.
We still are issuing computers to
tribal member households that have not
received a computer previously. It’s still
one computer per person/household/
address and all applications must include
verification of your physical address.
We are issuing laptop computers to
college students who attend either full-
time (minimum 12 credit hours) or part-
time (minimum six credit hours).
To be eligible, students must have
completed two terms at either part-time
or full-time status, with a minimum 2.0
GPA each term; and currently must be
enrolled at least part-time in the current
term. This verification, along with verifi
cation of your address, must be forwarded
with your application.
We also are issuing computers to non
tribal parents/guardians (NIC) of tribal
children of whom they have custody. This
requires verification of residence and veri
fication of custody of the tribal child.

We began issuing computers from a
new company - Lakota Office & Tech
nology. It’s an Indian-owned company in
South Dakota. Their computers also have
a warranty and toll-free technical support.
